Pain below ear

I didnt want to tell anyone or write this as its christmas. When I fill my cheeks with air, the area below my ear makes a quelching sound. I did it often enough that now the area is incredibly painful, as though I've strained it. Chewing causes sharp pains, and trying to stretch my neck didnt feel right at all, as though my necks not up to it. I'm lying down now but I dont have any idea what this could be. trying not to worry although its really triggering my anxiety and causing other symptoms

It's painful as though you've strained it because you've strained it

Stop puffing your cheeks out, rest your jaw, take some antinflammatories and you will be fine

Aphrodite31 · 25/12/2021 18:31

What were you doing to strain if??

JinglyJingles · 25/12/2021 18:38

Sounds like an ear infection. Is there a minor injuries or gp around open tomorrow near you?

Littlefish · 25/12/2021 19:12

Have you taken any pain killers?

Have you tried wearing scarf and putting a (not too hot) hot water bottle on it?

JinglyJingles · 25/12/2021 19:29

We haven't got anything like painkillers or anti inflammatories. I'll try a hot water bottle

Thanks everyone

Petrol stations and some corner shops are open. Or do a shout out for painkillers. If you were local to me I'd bring you some.

There's always A&E if you genuinely feel beyond that.

My husband has a strange thing where he can puff air into some sort of extra space below his ear. He always tells me it's to do with vestigial gills, though I don't actually know why he thinks/knows that.

Your issue sounds very similar. Harmless but a bit painful. If you've been doing it a lot, presumably it has got irritated and possibly even infected, hence very painful. If time and hot water bottle don't soothe it, go and ask at minor injuries?

But if it's this thing, it's not anything worrying, unless an infection. Just a bit odd and probably not good to do a lot.

Could be your glands. Do they feel really sore when you bend down?
I had this last week as well as horrible sinuses. Turns out it was covid, that festive party pooper!

Aphrodite31 · 26/12/2021 11:54

I think it sounds like glands too.
