New coil - wires?

I had a mirena coil fitted a week ago as the GP wanted me to come off the combined pill due to my age. I have had problems with very heavy periods which were manageable with the combined pill, but apparently it is a stroke/clot risk as you get older.

Fitting all went ok and I have had spotting in the week but all manageable.

As I finished the pill I have obviously now started my period.

The doc said I needed to check it was all ok and showed me what the wires would feel like.

Period has not been particularly heavy so far (long may it continue), but I'm pretty sure I can feel the wire only a fingernail deep 😳 Is that right? I really thought it would be higher than that - how are you supposed to have sex 😳 or does everything lie lower when you are on your period? I am sure she was ferreting much further up when she put it in 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'll obviously get it checked next week but as it is Friday I thought I would ask the hive mind that is Mumsnet to get me through the weekend 🤦🏻‍♀️

What age are you?
The wires should be short and up near your cervix
They can be shortened if required

The cervix would be lower during your period, and they do also soften over time - but you can go back and get them shortened.

They shorten the longer they are in as well. Plus if you have a longer or shorter cervix can impact how much of it you can feel.
