Hard lump above c section scar

KeepYaHeadUp · 03/12/2021 00:38

I had an EMCS 5 weeks ago exactly. When showering last night I was being braver than usual and slowly massaging some soap and water over my incision to clean it (have let water and soap run over it before) and noticed a smallish hard lump under the skin close to the left end of my incision.

It feels a bit like a grape in size. I’m convinced I’ve got a hernia. Can’t think what else it could be. Anyone had similar or know what it might be?

It doesn't particularly hurt when I touch it, though that side of my incision has always been more sore than the other.

Just when I thought I had turned a corner and was recovering well 😩

Hi @KeepYaHeadUp,

We're just giving your thread a bump in the hope that someone can answer your query.

Sorry you're going through a worrying time - we hope you're okay. Flowers

Could potentially be scar tissue

Areallthegoodnamesgone · 03/12/2021 15:26

I had this after my section, at my 6 week check the GP said they were internal stitches. My baby is 13 weeks now and the lumps have been gone for a few weeks now

Mrsjayy · 03/12/2021 15:27

It might as a pp said scar tissue. Scars can heal weirdly obviously if you are worried see the gp.

Thanks for bumping. I suppose it could be scar tissue - I've got my 6 week check next week so will mention it then

Or stitches on the layer underneath. It is at the end of the incision

Yes you heal in layers so maybe just a bumpy layer definitely mention it though.

@KeepYaHeadUp bit late but how did you get on with the above?

I'm in the exact same position seen by a nurse who said it was probably scar tissue or a fatty lump.

But its so hard and freaking me out a bit.

I am 4 weeks post section and went for too big and strenuous a walk last week and am worried I've done myself an injury

Hi Vkyz,

This has taken me back! I was absolutely convinced it was a hernia, it felt so odd and I was sore and scared. Convinced id be suffering for months. I had it prodded at my 6 week check and the GP wasn't concerned but asked me to return if it was still bothering me once I felt generally back to normal.

It was absolutely nothing. It was there for a few weeks afterwards but I recovered fine and id actually forgotten all about the lump. I've just had a prod about and can't feel anything now so I guess whatever it was it's either disappeared or I'm not as hyper-aware as I was then.

Try not to worry - wish I could tell past me the same thing. Just keep an eye but trust the midwives/nurses/docs who see these things all the time.

,@KeepYaHeadUp

Thank you so much you have made me feel tons better!.

I'll keep an eye on it - Annoying as my health visitor told me the Dr's no longer do 6 week check ups on mums only baby.

I was starting to feel more myself but just overdid it. Have really bad health anxiety all of a sudden after csection/having my wee boy.

Thanks again
