Period pain: best pain killers

This period is flooring me, kept me up half the night with awful cramps.

painkillers aren't helping (cocodamol and ibuprofen) and I've got a busy few days ahead of work that needs my full concentration.

Is there something over the counter I can get to sort me out. I rarely have to take painkillers for periods and usually just get in with it but today it's making me feel a bit sick.

I only found out recently that ibruprofen can reduce the length and flow of your period. DD was advised by her GP to start taking them 3 or 4 days before her period is due.

I've just discovered Nurofen plus which is ibuprofen and codeine combined. The only thing thats ever worked.

Another vote for max dose of ibuprofen started 48 hours before your period is due. Reduces pain, flow and duration.

That's interesting about ibuprofen. I hardly ever take it but I've been taking it today and will continue over the next few days and hopefully it does the trick.

Ibuprofen changed my life BUT I had to take a lot. If I took three at once instead of two - I was told to do this by a doctor - it killed the pain completely for eight hours. If I took two it took the edge off it for four hours.

Naproxen - seems to be a bit more antispasmodic. Magic.
