Can't find Mirena strings

Had the mirena fitted in April of this year. It doesn't agree with me at all, any side effect that could happen has. I went to my GP who said she would remove it there and then. Unfortunately she couldn't find the strings so couldn't remove it. I was referred back to the women's hospital that put it in and I have an appointnent next week to see if they can remove it.

Has this happened to anybody else?

Mine got removed under general anaesthetic. I was scanned beforehand to see if it was still there and it was. The nurse and the gynae department both tried to remove it but had to refer me for GA instead

@dementedpixie, thanks for replying. Did you have the mirena in long and what was your reason for having it removed? Where you sore after the removal?

I have a feeling they won't "find it" next week either.

I had it removed as it had expired so it had been in for 5 years. The strings went missing quite soon after I got it so I was scanned at that point and then it was left in. I was scanned again and xrayed before it was removed to double check it was still in the right place.

I was fine after removal but it was a scary thought to go under anaesthetic for it. Luckily dh got a vasectomy so i didn't need contraception after that

I never got my strings checked at 6 weeks. I had a horrific time getting it in that I just wanted to forget about it. My husband has a vasectomy too. I got the coil for heavy periods. Definately hope they can't find it as don't want a GA. Thanks again for replying..
