Itching all over like crazy? Caused by period?

I come on my period yesterday. From about 9pm last night my whole body has been itching like crazy from head to toe. Never experienced anything like it. Could this be hormone related? No rash just ridiculously itchy!!

I have AMA antibodys in my liver also which indicate liver disease but they told me I can’t be diagnosed until my liver enzymes elevate along side the antibodys.

I’m so worried. I was up until 3am scratching. And now been itching all day too. Do I wait this out for a few days and see if it goes as my period ends ? My GPS aren’t very helpful so I feel like they won’t do much!

Could the itch be from your liver, I would speak to a doctor and get a blood test done.

GoWalkabout · 11/10/2021 11:43

I think it's most likely your liver, and as its a new symptom you should get it checked out. Good luck.
(Generalised itching is often called urticaria if you are looking for other causes - but liver is a big cause of itching so most likely related to this).

Extreme all over itching can indicate a liver problem. I only found this out when I had gallstones. You should see your GP.

Yeah I though so think I was just hoping for something else! I’m on hold to the doctors now

My husband itched all over when he started taking vitamin D supplements.

When you speak to the Doctor it may be a good idea to ask them to check your Kidney function too. Severe itching can happen when the kidneys are not flushing toxins out properly.

I was itching so badly all over that I couldn't bear my clothes touching my skin. I went to A&E where they said I'd done the right thing. I was put on a drip of antihistamines and steroids. Blood test came back fine. Told I could come back if it happened again. If you get no joy from your GP, go to A&E. Diagnosis was a severe allergic reaction.

Viviennemary · 11/10/2021 14:44

I don't think that's good enough. This shouldn't be decided by a nurse and certainly not a receptionist.

Thanks I have the blood test form to collect tomorrow. Dreading tonight’s sleep already. It seems to be up and down I can feel okish for an hour then really bad again. I will collect and book tomorrow. If it gets any worse I will go to A&E I have a feeling they will turn me away as they may not see it as an ‘emergency’ but if it doesn’t get better then I will have to.

Itching can be a symptom of low iron. Are they checking that? Also a couple of blood disorders (though that’s more common if the itching is made worse by water) so an Full blood count is a good idea. The first thing you will be asked is if you have changed anything recently such as washing powder. Hope you get the answers.

Severe itching can be a sign of peri menopause

RandomRoulette · 29/10/2021 00:07

Cholestasis?

groundcontroltomajormum · 02/11/2021 18:31

I tend to get itchy on my period op. It could be an allergy also.

longtompot · 02/11/2021 19:57

I get itchy when my iron is very low. I take an antihistamine which can help. Obviously rule out the liver issues first, just in case. I thought for years my itchy skin was due to it reacting to the elements or washing powder or shower gels or body lotions etc. But once my iron was sorted it went! It came back as my iron issue isn't sorted yet, but I have hope.
