Copper coil and periods

I'm considering changing to a non-hormonal method of contraception as the mini-pill is triggering my anxiety and I have more or less constant bleeding. I'm interested in people's experiences of the copper coil, did it also cause breakthrough bleeding or really long periods? Thanks

I had a copper coil and I liked it. My cycle remained the same 28-32 days. My periods were heavier with the coil but still normal heavy, not gushing etc.
The only issue I had is there was always a weird aroma down there a few days before AF was due. Not strong enough for others to smell but enough for me and DH to notice.

I had a copper coil for about 2 years. I don't have any fibroids, endometriosis or any condition which affects my periods but the copper coil made my periods horrendous. They went from 3-4 day periods to 7-10 days and so heavy. Many festivals and weekends away ruined by very heavy periods. I got it removed in the end and had the mirena which was great

Thanks for your replies. I'm really worried about the heavy periods and at least with the mini-pill it's easy to stop taking it. I wish there was an easy non-hormonal method!

Yes, I'm currently pregnant but one of us is getting sterilised after this baby is born! I am sick of 23 years worth of contraception. I am done!

Had a copper coil for last 10 years, just had it refitted. No problems at all with my periods although I’m perimenopausal so could just be everything is grinding to a halt anyway Grin
