Mini-pill (cerazette) and bleeding

I've been in this for 6 weeks and feel like I'm bleeding almost constantly! Currently on day 8 of period when previously they only lasted 4 days max. Also seem to be bleeding every 2 weeks so far.

If anyone else suffered with increased bleeding did it settle down and how long did it take? I'm getting really fed up! Thanks

I was on cerazette about 13 years ago after eldest was born. It was terrible for me. I spot continuously for 6-7 months even though I took the pills regularly at the same time. Cerazette also gave me severe mood swings and I was almost always crying or upset about something.

I’ve been on norahisterone for 10 years now and much much better for me. No in between bleeding, no mood swings, not weird weight fluctuations. Really suits my body.

I was on this a few times
It took months for me to stop bleeding and then I'd maybe have a bleed every 3 months which is a pain in the arse not knowing when you are going to have a period
I went back on it after having ds but lost my patience with the bleeding this time and gave up

Thanks both. @Hihelp I'm constantly crying and feel very anxious too and did wonder if it was related. Thanks for the alternative suggestion, I think I might ask the doctor for that

Any mini pill will be fine. It’s just the brand name

I’ve only just had a bleed after being back on it for 5 months.

I bled lightly almost constantly for the first two months, with occasional days not bleeding and a few heavier bleeding days chucked every fortnight fortnight good measure. The third month I didn't bleed at all and I haven't had a period since. I'd stick with it a bit longer if you can.

Also, there is a great book about the pill, called how the pill changes everything. It's a great, easy to read explanation of what the pill (both combined and mini) does to your body. It helped me understand the effects I was having and also gives different options if your current pill isn't working for you

(Different pop, or mini pills are all superficially the same, ie just progesterone, but the manufacturing route is different for different brands and for some women, this can change how you react to them. This is because all women have slightly different levels and combinations of existing sex hormones, so adding others does slightly different things.)

Hihelp · 27/09/2021 11:15

No they’re not the same and not just brand name difference.

Norethisterone, is a traditional POP which thickens the mucus of the cervix and must be taken everyday where you have a 3 hour window to take it at the same time. Cerazette is a desogestrol which can also stop ovulation and has a 12 hour window.

For me, cerazette really made me think I was going mad.

OP, ask about traditional POP to try, if you don’t want to take the combined pill. I only took the POP as I was breastfeeding years ago, but I’ve carried on with it.

I was on cerazette about 4 years ago and I pretty much bled constantly on it. Personally, it never stopped for me until I came off it 6 months later, it was miserable.

I'd went on it because I'd been getting headaches on my combined pill but I couldn't take the bleeding. I ended up going back on a combined pill, I started on the low dose Loestrin and never had any issues with that

tuttifruit · 27/09/2021 12:01

The first 3 months of taking the mini pill I had constant spotting. I nearly came off it but the nurse encouraged me to stick with it and I'm glad she did. After 3 months I've had no bleeding at all and the other side effects have settled down too. I really like it now

olivo · 27/09/2021 12:37

I was similar to tuttifruit, took a couple of months, three at the most, to settle down and now I've no bleeding for three years.

Try and stick with it for a while longer if you can.

OneForTheRoadThen · 27/09/2021 12:58

Thanks all! I'll stick it out for the initial 3 months worth of pills I have in that case and then see where I am. I'm reluctant to try anything else at the moment as I'm worried about continual bleeding but at least with the pill it's easy to stop taking it.

I gave up after 3 months or so. Went on combined pill

emmathedilemma · 27/09/2021 13:06

yep! I had 3 weeks of no bleeding when I first start taking it, then had a bleed when I would have been due a period, it stopped for a week and then I had another 10 weeks or more of daily bleeding. It wasn't heavy but enough to require protection. I quit after that. I was taking to supposedly help with heavy bleeding rather than for contraception.
