Are there any pills that don’t make you crazy?

I’ve tried two different pills since having dd2 and they really don’t seem to agree with me. I used to take dianette but can’t any more. Any recommendations?

@Fiddlersgreen

I’m the same age as you OP and dianette was the only pill I’ve taken which cleared my skin and didn’t feel like it messed with my head/body too much. Have also been told I can’t take it anymore. Currently on marvelon but not happy with it
Crap isn’t it? I’m sick of ringing my GP. The bloody receptionist doesn’t even ask my name anymore Confused I’ve got another review next week and a referral to dermatology in two weeks. I feel like I’m whinging but constantly bleeding, huge cystic spots and cold sores one after another are just making me depressed

Diannette isn't a normal combined pill. I had it when I was 38/39 after I'd had DD as I had pcos acne, but it made me depressed. So then I had Marvelon which suited me well. Before prescribing it my GP ran some blood tests for clotting risk - not sure exactly what now. (I've never smoked and was ok weight). I was on that until I was over 50 (should have been stopped at 50 but they didn't notice my age).

I was on cerazette and it was unbearable, admittedly years ago. I tried the injection and it turned me into a complete bitch. Now I'm on Rigevidon and it's been amazing, I feel no different at all. I run packs together and have no periods and I don't notice I'm on it.

Before DD I was on microgynon, that was ok too.

Completely feel your pain! I had the coil a few years ago after years of problems with acne and heavy bleeding. It helped with those issues but I couldn't get over feeling like there was something in me (completely in my head admittedly!). I'm now on yasmin and have the clearest skin I have ever had and fairly 'normal' periods.

Really appreciate all these responses. I’m going to ask about yasmin
@ErrolTheDragon did the marvelon help your acne? How bad was it?

It was pretty bad, OP. The Marvelon did help.

Hello, I know this is ages after you posted but am in same boat as you were - constant bleeding on cerazette. I was advised to try it after non stop heavy bleeding 6 months after my boy was born l. I’ve been on it almost 2 months and got awful mood swings, cramps etc which I didn’t have before. I’m booked for hysteroscopy next week to investigate after a scan showed thickened lining and sure they will suggest putting in the mirena but I’m petrified it will cause more of the same or worse. How has your experience been with the mirena considering you were bleeding on cerazette?

ladygindiva · 02/08/2022 15:38

For me personally, none. I tried every pill, injection, coil etc The only contraception that I used besides condoms that didn't send me insane was the diaphragm, which I highly recommend actually.

Hey, you'll see upthread I had a Mirena fitted last September after excessive bleeding on desogestrel (same as in cerezette). Initial discomfort for a day or two, but within a month bleeding had settled right down and I now have a couple of days of very light spotting on a regular monthly cycle. For me, it seems to have been worth getting over my apprehension of the fitting.
