Anemia and blood tests

Hi two part question here!

I’ve been experiencing ongoing fatigue and other symptoms for some time. I was previously found to have a low iron count and given iron tablets but there was no follow up. I’m again now back in contact with the doctor with a variety of issues and have been referred for blood tests including iron and thyroid function.

So part 1 question. After my phone consult with the gp I got a text to say the blood test could be several weeks away and to start taking iron supplements in the mean time. Now if I do that won’t it inflate my iron levels and therefore when I get a a blood test the real issue (If iron is one) will be masked?

Part 2. During the consult she said that back in 2017 it was flagged that there was a suspicion I could have a blood disorder, again possibly iron related, but because I don’t have the right heritage it wasn’t ever tested for. I can not recall what she said this was though! I’m pretty sure it began with an s and sounded like ‘solias’ or similar. I queried whether it was celiac disease and she said no but the words were very similar sounding, any ideas what that could be?! I’d like to research it.
