Thrush in bum crack?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 17/09/2021 17:10

I've suddenly developed a red painful itchy patch of skin in between my upper bum cheeks right near the top by my tail bone. It hurts to sit down, and it feels so raw. It's 100% not an STD lol. I feel like I may have had something like this years and years ago and the Dr told me it was thrush so I'm assuming that's what it is again. I've been applying Canestin cream to the area with the hope it gets better soon, but can anyone tell me if I should be using something else? If it doesn't get better then I'll make a Dr appointment on Monday, but I'm hoping I can get rid of it by then

Pilonidal sinus?

FrankReynolds · 17/09/2021 17:18

Could it be a skin infection (intertrigo I think it's called) because of the recent warm weather? I got one in the same place when I was laid up after my emergency c-section with eldest. I was prescribed canesten and it went quickly. Just had to make sure I kept the area dry and clean. Hopefully it goes quickly Thanks

Could be eczema, treatable with mild steroid cream. Best to let doctor look and decide what it is. Good luck!

Any sore bits in nooks and crannies, I treat with a dab of athletes foot cream + hydrocortisone and take extra care washing (unscented soap) and drying. Embarrassing trip to the gp after a few days if no improvement, haven't had to yet, thank all the deities!GrinShock

Could be folliculitis? My DS is being treated for that at top of his bum crack at the moment

Yes I've been Googling (not for the faint of heart lol!) and I think this is what I have. Will Canestin work?

According to this page www.healthline.com/health/intertrigo#fungal-treatment

They're recommending

• zinc oxide ointment
• petroleum jelly (Vaseline)
• talcum powder
• aluminum sulfate

And also using Nizerol which I have from my daughters ring worm on her head. They also recommend: Topical antifungals used for intertrigo are nystatin and azole drugs, including miconazole, ketoconazole, or clotrimazole.

I have no idea what any of those are but wonder if I can get them over the counter at the pharmacy.

I think I may have got it with some new PJ's I've been wearing that are super comfy but totally synthetic and make me sweat. Never used to have an issue with stuff like this.

Yep, canesten is an antifungal (clotrimazole), try for a few days and if no improvement speak to your gp next week.

Not sure I would risk the nizerol on my bits and bobs!
