Periods going crazy - Why? (Poss TMI)

Before anyone suggests the GP is best place to go, I went this morning! GP checked me by feeling tummy and to internal examination, is referring me for ultrasound just to check as couldn't spot any areas of concern.

I'm early 40s, had mirena coil fitted 8 months ago to have better control of heavy periods.

Last 3 or 4 months of periods are becoming more erratic, can have a period, stop, the nanotjer 1 or 2 weeks later, but now beconf really heavy.

My last period finished fully yesterday, then this evening it has started again really heavy. They are becoming heavier so on Saturday while changibg sanitary products 6abiut 6 times I bled through 2 lots of jeans.

Equally annoying is that I'm getting headaches too with my periods, either a raw sore feeling behind one or both eyeballs or what feels like flash of lightening across one side if my head. No vision distortion etc with them.

Anyone have suggestions what could be happening?

Perimenopause?

JoyOrbison · 15/09/2021 06:50

Had blood test about 6 months ago came back no signs of menopause but hoping they will test again for this.

There is no test per se for menopause. They diagnose through symptoms after ruling out other causes with blood tests.

After a similar experience with the mirena I'd say it's not having the desired effect and is likely causing some of your issues.

Could it be your coil ?
I had one fitted after second dc , it made my periods really heavy and I kept flooding. Very painful as well , once I went to pick dc up from their cot , the action made me flood badly, quickly put dc back down , and fainted . It came out pretty soon after that !
Periods settled down once it was out.

Possibly COVID vaccination- seems to be growing evidence it has affected women's periods
More likely peri menopause or the coil but you never know!

Thanks everyone!

I'll see what swab results and ultrasound suggest but if nothing comes of them and periods carry on like this I may have it taken out

Flipping Heck, I was enjoying keeping my periods under control!

@JoyOrbison have you had the covid vaccine? www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58573593

FartNRoses · 18/09/2021 14:09

I don’t have the coil but was suddenly bleeding constantly. Periods very heavy and clotty. Would end and then start up again.
Went and had an ultrasound and I’ve got four fibroids setting up camp in my womb having a great time 🙄 I’ve been prescribed Tranexamic Acid.

peaceinourtime · 18/09/2021 14:13

Tranexamic acid is all you need, its the best.

JoyOrbison · 20/09/2021 12:40

Yes had vaccine, noticed that in here and it did get me wondering... Will see what results come back with too.
Interesting g Re the acid, will see if that is a possibility.

Could the coil have come out?
