hi , i have a skin tag/ sentinel pile left over from a small fissure i had a few years ago. it bothers me greatly , i find it embarassing and shameful to get intimate with someone and it gives me hygiene issue with cleaning after the loo and is sometimes itchy. i have been put off going to gp because i read they cannot remove them. i tried going to a skin clinic who tried to charge me £600 that i simply cannot afford. is there absolutely no circumstances my gp will remove it for me? its really starting to get me down and im only 20:(

It is a low priority surgery but not impossible. Read point 4. However, it may depend on your local CCG so google your area guidelines.

My practice wouldn't do it.

I've got one on my fanny :( boots do a solution that apparently removes them for £25 but I'm not brave enough to try it

Would this work, maybe?
"Soak a cotton swab in apple cider vinegar, and then place the cotton swab over the skin tag. Wrap the section in a bandage for 15 to 30 minutes, and then wash the skin. Repeat daily for a couple of weeks. The acidity of apple cider vinegar breaks down the tissue surrounding the skin tag, causing it to fall off."
(Note, I have not tried this myself!)

I got rid of a skin tag using tagband. It pinched initially and dropped off after a few day.

Otherthanetta · 09/09/2021 20:54

I’ve heard of tag bands too. I’ve got 2-3skin tags I’d like to get rid of but I’m to scared to attempt it myself 😬

Belleangel22 · 09/09/2021 21:50

I’m scared to try anything on myself as it is such a delicate area, worried on the risk of infection.

A friend had hers removed but she says it wasn't worth the pain and wasn't expecting the recovery to be so long. I think she ended up with nearly 3 weeks off work because it was so sore and because she needed to wash after every bowel movement to keep the wound clean.

Belleangel22 · 10/09/2021 09:50

Did your friend have hers removed privately or with her GP? I have heard the process is very painful but I just want rid of it so badly I can’t cope

Hi everyone , thought I’d update Yous. I managed to get in contact with another private clinic who were a lot more friendly to me! They’ve given me a price mark of £130 if only cryotherapy is needed. However a specialist in minor surgery is checking me just in case it needs a bit more. I’m seeing him on Wednesday. A bit nervous to get my bum out in front of some man ahah but all worth it! I’ll let yous know how it goes:)
