Hi ladies
So recently had my implant removed (nexplanon) decided wanted to give body a break and go on something else so Dr advised me to go onto DESOGESTREL. I haven't started it yet and a little unsure as looked into it and seem to have lots of negatives:

Have any of you been on this if so please tel me your story Blush

All the best
J

I’m on it and it’s wonderful! I had success with three out of four implants, one didn’t take so well (the third weirdly)

I have very scant periods, if any at all. No weight gain, no bad moods, no pain, no bad skin, very happy all round to be honest. What are you particularly worried about?

TheGirlWhoLived · 07/09/2021 23:26

I am slightly above average bmi (particularly under height rather than massively over weight) have three children, have been on various contraceptives since I was 16 (I’m 32)

My sex drive is fairly low at the Moment if I’m being completely honest, but ds1 is 6 months and teething (and still in with us!) so not completely surprising

I'm on deso and it changed my life. Ended my decade of crippling endo periods, as well as all of my horrific period and PMS side effects. Not a single downside for me. Obviously everyone's different but honestly it gave me my life back.

Noseylittlemoo · 08/09/2021 06:34

I have been taking it for about 6 or 7 years. Like a pp I have no periods most of the time and the one or two per year I do have are so light .
I didn't know it had negative reviews. Other than the no periods which I see as a plus, I don't have any side effects and wouldn't know I was taking anything.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 08/09/2021 06:41

I think it's marvellous. Took a while to stop my periods but have had zero endometriosis symptoms and no periods at all for three or four years. Also at 46 I'm not noticing any menopause/peri-menopause symptoms people are commonly reporting on here and apparently I can take this for another nine or ten years if required.

Summersnake · 08/09/2021 06:43

Been on it for 10 plus years …no mood swings with pmt.no periods .
Take it every day ,with no break ..I’m old and fat and I can still take it

Jode1990 · 08/09/2021 07:20

Thank you everyone, I'm a worrier when I comes to new pills. Especially ones I haven't been on before or heard off GrinGrinGrin
I'll start them today then and see how I get on, I put weight on with the implant so hoping I don't with this one.

I swapped onto it from Dianette (for my skin) because my blood pressure was a bit high. My skin is dreadfully greasy (like really bad) and there's nothing I can do about it.

FlorenceNightshade · 08/09/2021 07:50

I’ve been taking it for years and love it! I have aural migraines so can’t take combined pill.
The first few months there was a lot of random bleeding but once it settled down after about 8 months I’ve not had a single bleed since. It’s amazing! No weight, skin or mood problems either. I have sometimes forgotten to take it but that’s because I work shifts and there isn’t a time I’m guaranteed to be awake everyday! I just carry a spare strip with me and used to set an alarm on my phone

Narutocrazyfox · 08/09/2021 07:52

I absolutely love it. If I could have used it unstead if any other contraception in my life, I would have. Pros : a lifetime of intense ovulation pain and crippling period pain gone overnight! Cons : I have a period every month and some unexpected bleeding, but this is apparently rare.

OreganoLeaf · 21/10/2021 14:02

@Jode1990 Can I ask how you got along with this? I had my nexplanon implant removed a few days ago following 5 months of constant bleeding after insertion and they have now put me on Desogestrel. I'm currently still bleeding and have only had 2 days worth of the new pill but wondered how you have been getting on so far?

WithMyEncyclopedia · 21/10/2021 14:06

Been taking it ever since birth of dc1 ages ago. Hardly ever get periods, no negatives as far as I can tell!

Rachlou1988 · 09/11/2021 16:10

Hi I started taking desogeatrel last year started with random bleeds after about 3 months it settled and not bled since although yesterday I noticed a very light bleed and a small string like clot after intercourse on Sunday I have no other symptoms with it

Bagelsandbrie · 09/11/2021 16:47

Been on it for 7 years, no periods (they did take a while to stop in the beginning, just keep going with it) and find it works brilliantly for me. No side effects. No risk of blood clots unlike the combined pill.

Mablefly · 15/11/2021 21:20

I take it to prevent migraines. It has vastly reduced the number of migraines I get and has also made my periods way more manageable. I love it. No negatives for me

veryouting2021 · 15/11/2021 21:28

Been taking it for 13 years with two spells off for conception and birth of my two babies.

After the first couple of months my periods stopped and I've only had them when I've been off the pill (28 days later). I conceived in the first post-period cycle both times.

I'm a fan in case you hadn't guessed.
