Missing period

W3STY17 · 06/09/2021 11:29

Wondering if anyone can help me.

I have posted on here before regarding my late period.

The last period I has was 23/06/21.

I have PCOS. I'm 30.

I have been in contact with my GP regarding this but they don't seem very helpful.

I have been in excessive pain but it has decreased now (for the moment).

How long do they normal leave you with a missing period?
Is there anything they (GP) can do?

I've tried not to worry about it as I know that can delay things.

This just isn't normal for me & is a concern.

Following as I've missed one this month for the first time ever. Ironic really as I've gone from complaining about how frequent and heavy they were to the sudden lack of!! I wondered if it was due to the vaccine but it's been quite a while since i had my 2nd dose and had a normal period since then. I've had fibroids treated and an ongoing history of heavy bleeding but never missed one before. I felt like I was about to start but never did and had terrible bloating last week when I was a few days late (my knickers were digging in me it was so bad) but that's gone now.
The NHS website seemed to suggest you should only contact your GP after 3 missed periods.

when did you last POAS, OP?

W3STY17 · 21/09/2021 13:45

@lljkk

08/09 was the last test I took which was negative.
I was sent to the EPC & had an ultrasound (& internal) but nothing was on the scan.

No professional seems to want to help or look into it.

I have a gynaecologist app 29/11 which is classed as urgent.

I can't help but think there's something wrong with me.

I'm trying not to stress cause I know that delays but my body just doesn't feel right.

@emmathedilemma

I have heard so many people complain about their periods since the vaccine.

I also heard that they're looking into this now.

I was advised to report mine using the yellow card thing.

I haven't had a period since 23/06 which is the longest I've ever gone without a period.

When I had an ultrasound last week, it was so painful when they did the internal on my left side. I have been complaining of pain on my left side for over a year but they just keep saying it's cause of my PCOS.

I don't know why but I feel like they're fobbing me off.

I just want to know some answers & want some help regarding the missing period but no one wants to know. I just keep being told that it'll happen when my body is ready but surely it's not normal to go that long without a period? Especially when it's not your usual if you know what I mean...

I know the NHS is under pressure due to covid but I wish they would look into things when they're abnormal.

I'm just worried something is wrong & it's being missed.

I know what you mean! I expect they’ll just tell me it’s peri menopause and not to worry about it…….
I’ve reported it to the yellow card system too.

Its likely that your previously diagnosed PCOS is responsible for your missing periods now rather than the vaccine.

I am wondering if endometriosis is the root cause of your ongoing pain here. Its something I would indeed ask them about at your next appointment. Ask them about the possibility of you also having endometriosis. PCOS does not cause such pain; it causes periods to be irregular.

Endometriosis is not detected readily if at all on any internal ultrasound scan as the deposits are so very small.

I would phone the department weekly to see if there are any cancellation appointments you could possibly attend.

@emmathedilemma
Do you mind me asking how old you are?
Obviously you don't have to answer.
People are going through menopause earlier than I thought these days.

@AttilaTheMeerkat
I did wonder about endometriosis.
Can they detect that via ultrasound?
I thought the only way they could diagnose it was through laparoscopy.
I was told before I had children that I could have endometriosis as I had loads of symptoms of it.
Other than the pains in my stomach I don't have any other symptoms.
I just feel so fed up at the moment. I don't feel myself. The pain is awful & it's getting me down.

My main symptoms for endometriosis were pain (and lots of it leading up to and including menses) and heavy bleeding (sometimes red, other times brown "old" blood). It can involve the intestines in some women too. I did have what is known on here as "javelin arse" which is rectal pain and leg pain (it irritated the sciatic nerve).

It is NOT readily detected on internal ultrasound scans (I've had more of those than I care to mention and NONE of them detected the endo there). The PCOS diagnosis I received came first (that was seen via ultrasounds and blood tests) and the endometriosis diagnosis came after the laparoscopic type surgery I underwent. Its usually diagnosed through such keyhole type surgery.

I would also suggest you keep a daily pain and symptom diary if you do not already do so; this should also give the gynae some clues.

emmathedilemma · 22/09/2021 09:09

44 although through investigations for the heavy bleeding I’ve had 2 blood tests over recent years that said I wasn’t peri menopausal. Interestingly had a bit of spotting this morning.

W3STY17 · 22/09/2021 10:11

@AttilaTheMeerkat
I'm keeping a diary of every day & how I feel so when I go to my appointment I can show it to them.
Unsure if they'll be interested but at least I have it.
I'm scared of having time undergo a laparoscopy. I know it seems silly but it scares me that something could go wrong & I'll end up being worse that I am now.

@emmathedilemma
Bless you, I hope you eventually get some answers.
I keep feeling like I'm going to start my period but when I go to the bathroom there is nothing?!
I just don't understand what's going on!

I'm still missing my period..
I really don't know what's going on with my body.
No one seems to want to help, look into it or give me any answers?
I keep getting period like cramps but nothing comes of it??
