Breast feeding and periods!

So I'll just start out with saying that I have a GP app on Tuesday, but in the meantime I'm panicking.
This is my second BF baby. He is 16 months old and he can have up to around 6 BF in a 24 hour period, mainly at night. My period returned a while ago, when I was 9 months PP. I've always had long, semi irregular cycles. My periods retrieved as normal after my first at around 9 months, however, this time is a different story. Period have been irregular and I'm experiencing a lot of spotting between my cycles. I'm really worried. I had a very strange period about 12 days ago and I've just had some spotting tonight. It's light red almost pink/red bloody every time. Has anyone else experienced anything like this whilst still BFing at this point?

I had this with my first born. Periods returned 3 months PP and then were pretty much normal until he was 15 months. I had spotting between periods & then very short cycles.
I went to the doctors as I was so worried. I had my smear which was fine & she put it down to hormones due to breastfeeding.
I then fell pregnant & all was fine but recently got the spotting between some periods again when she was around 10 months old.

Are your smears upto date?
Definitely a good idea to go to the GP!
