Can't get a smear test...

Hi all.

Im on yearly smears due to recent tests showing hpv+ but no abnormal cells thankfully.
Had a colposcopy in 2019 after 3 hpv+ tests which was clear, biopsies clear.
Had a smear in Sept 2020 which again was hpv+ but no abnormalities.
Had my letter for a smear in August so immediately rang the GP but they have no practice nurse (!) so they're not doing smears - they gave me the number for the local SH service - they're doing emergencies only and to phone back in a few weeks.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm worried that delaying a smear could be bad (I have health anxiety.)

Thank you for reading x

Hi there,

In your area, do you have an out of hours GP alliance number that you can call? I can never get in at my doctor's office so I always call these. They do evening appointments and weekend appointments in my local area. However, I have never used them for a smear. You could try though?

Or maybe call 111 for suggestions?

That's awful. I would be changing GP. I had a smear during full lockdown without issue. You may be able to pay for a private one but you shouldn't have to.

You can pay for one privately- most private hospitals offer them or other types of well woman clinics or a private GP appt.

Cost is anything from £50-£75.
