Bleeding between periods

Seeress · 28/08/2021 22:48

Early 40s, hormone fluctuations throughout my whole life but I have never bled between periods. The last two cycles I've had a little bit of spotting halfway though which I wasn't too worried about as it occurred around ovulation so I just thought "oh that's new". But this cycle I've had frequent bloody discharge, bright red blood (and some brown today), enough to fall into the toilet when I have a wee. I'll ring the doc on Monday but I'm just wondering if this rings a bell with other women? And mainly, what could it be?! Peri-meno?

I have this it’s turned out to be a cervical erosion- apparently nothing can be done ! It’s quite stingy from time to time but I’ve had it for over a year now.

RandomMess · 28/08/2021 23:38

You should ALWAYS have this checked out.

cariaaad · 28/08/2021 23:56

There are things which can be done for cervical erosion @Mixitupalot. I had treatment with silver nitrate and have had no problems with bleeding since. If it is causing you concerns please seek a second opinion.
But yes, please do get it checked out.

Mixitupalot · 29/08/2021 00:31

@cariaaad oh thanks I’ve been to the doctor a few times about it with nothing more than painkillers. I will seek a second option, thanks 🙏

Yes get it checked out as soon as possible!

Seeress · 29/08/2021 06:32

Yes I'm going to ring first thing Monday :-(

This symptom could be benign or could indicate something very serious. Please check it out with your GP, not MN!!

icedcoffees · 29/08/2021 06:51

Always get it checked out.

I've had this and my GP was fantastic - ran all sorts of tests to make sure it was nothing serious. It could be anything from ovulation bleeding to hormonal issues to cancer - always always get it checked by a professional.

catsbeensickagain · 29/08/2021 07:18

Obviously needs checking, as you are doing but try not to worry.
I had this a couple of years ago, to be on the safe side the doctor redid my smear test and squished my tummy a bit. Final conclusion was that it was hormone related and that we could look to treat it if it went on, which it didn't.
Are you on any sort of hormone based contraceptive?

Your user name is apt, OP has literally just said she is calling her GP tomorrow. She is just reaching out for moral support in the meantime.

fabulouslyglamorousferret · 29/08/2021 07:30

@Seeress I had bleeding mid cycle, it was an ovarian polyp

Seeress · 29/08/2021 07:36

Thanks @catsbeensickagain and @fabulouslyglamorousferret . I'm not on any contraceptives, smears are up to date but just last was probably two years ago

I had a cervical erosion easily and successfully cauterised 40 years ago.

helentomelon · 29/08/2021 08:32

Have you had your COVID jab? I've been having two periods a month since having mine 3 months ago and have read lots of similar stories.

Always get checked out of course but it could be that

Seeress · 29/08/2021 08:46

I did have my covid jab in July, hadn't considered that at all! It was Pfizer

Yep, I think that's your culprit then! Get checked to be sure

My periods have been all over the place since having my jabs.

1st one I completely skipped a period for the first time in my life.
2nd one I started bleeding really heavily the day after.

Since then my periods have been irregular and varying in heaviness from almost non existent to very heavy bleeding with loads of clots.

I have no idea if this is just an age thing (45), something wrong or if the jabs have messed things up long term.

I had bleeding mid period for the first time this month so am going to get my overdue smear done and talk to my GP.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 29/08/2021 15:40

I had this and it turned out to be nothing. 'Unexplained bleeding' was the diagnosis.

Rm77 · 30/08/2021 11:24

I'm 44 and my mid cycle bleeding started in June. My 2nd astra zeneca jab was in May, so it probably affected it. I had a smear test, blood tests and a tv ultrasound which found a polyp. 2 weeks ago had the polyp removed and a mirena fitted to sort out the heavy periods and to lessen the occurrence of polyps. I have not stopped bleeding since the insertion of the mirena, so am hoping that it will work as am fed up with all this bleeding! Reading these posts am realising that this erratic bleeding is quite common !

Any updates from you ladies? Also bleeding between periods since jab, clear smear…
