I've just been sent an appointment after recent smear test. I received a text on my phone about the appointment. I'm pretty scared. Anyone else had this?

Hi OP, a colposcopy is just looking at your cervix with a camera. So a speculum goes in, like at a smear, then the doctor just has a look. In that sense it is less intrusive than a smear.
They may remove some cells there and then, if they are looking pre-cancerous. In that case you are given some numbing into the cervix first- after that I didn't feel anything and it was super quick. Are you concerned about the actual procedure, or what they might find?

What they might find. I'm 51.

I had a colposcopy after my first smear at 25.
I was pretty freaked beforehand. Not gonna lie it’s a very weird sensation but the nurses are well trained in distraction techniques.
If they see anything they will let you know. They couldn’t see anything on mine so they took a biopsy.
Afterwards I felt a little uncomfortable down there but it was over within around 15 minutes.

It’s not something to put off. Best of luck.

I had a colposcopy aged 23! So 5 years ago.

I found it absolutely fine. Much more comfortable than a smear (in my opinion)

I’ve had a colonoscopy twice as well and those are awful in comparison.
