Period was 8 days late, then it came and at the end the cramps were so sore

My period was 8 days late. I was very stressed. The stress came at me from every angle. Work was very intense. There was a lot of family stress and drama. I don't necessarily track ovulation but I do track my period and a lot of times I can pinpoint ovulation due to the PMS like abdominal cramping that happens. I knew the period was going to be late because I experienced the cramping much later than anticipated.

I usually have a 28/29 day cycle and the period was 8 days late last Friday. It wasn't a particularly though period. It wasn't more heavier than usual. The flow was much and the same. It was easing by Monday. By Tuesday it was as good as finished really. There was some light staining.

Yesterday I started to experience abdominal cramping that I usually get around about ovulation time. I do t know if my cycle is just going to bounce back to where it was with a 28 day cycle. I do t know what's happening.

My lower abdominal was sore yesterday and also last night and again today. Not only the abdominal but it's radiating all around my lower back and lower torso. It's so sore. I was awake in the middle of the night in pain. I wanted to get up but I was sore and too tired and sleepy so I laid in bed practicing some breathing until I slept again. In the morning I took some medicine - ibuprofen and buscopan a while after that to see if that helps. It definitely eased but my back and abdominal feels weak and I feel so tired today.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar before? I'm thinking now if I'm going through ovulation as if I had my period when it was supposed to come instead of it being 8 days late. Can that be possible? To finish a period and go into ovulation? Would that be the reason why I am so sore yesterday and today? Will the period return to a 28 day cycle from when I had my period or from when it was due? Does that make sense?

I wasn't feeling well at the end of July and I got some bloods taken at the doctors. Things came back reasonably clear except for iron. I am slightly anemic. The iron levels were 4 and iron supplement was suggested to me.

Would an iron supplement contribute to the period going out of whack and to the pains I am experiencing?
