Very heavy period- is this ‘normal’?

Possible TMI…

I had my son two years ago, my periods came back after 15 months and have been sporadic, which is normal for me as I have PCOS. I have noticed they are MUCH heavier. My current period is ridiculous and I’m starting to wonder if something is wrong? I’m on day 4 and am getting through a super plus plus pad every 2-3 hours in the day. At night I go for longer but have to get up to change and am leaking in the night and flooding when I stand up.
I went out for a couple of hours, new pad and put a tampon in too. Three hours later stood up & as I stood could feel it gushing. I went to the toilet and had leaked through the pad , tampon, and through my jeans. When I changed my tampon I had a massive clot come out after, like 3 50p coins in size.
I’m starting to wonder if I should see the GP or is this to be expected post baby with PCOS? No other symptoms. I’m completely fatigued but getting over a bug so assume it’s that.

I'd see your GP. It doesn't sound right

It doesn't sound right but my periods were like that from the day they started.

This is a change for you so that alone warrants investigation.

Have you had your covid jab recently? I had a very heavy period after that

SRK16 · 10/08/2021 09:31

I had my second covid jab in early June. I think they were like this before that since they came back earlier in the year? Ugh it is such a big change, A lot of friends have told me their periods were much heavier after children but this seems really extreme. I’m really of the ‘ignore it and it will go away’ school of thought with health but this just seems bizarre. I think maybe i will try and see my GP.
Thanks all

I'd go to your GP, as a minimum I'd expect them to send you for an ultrasound to check for fibroids. From what you've said you'd meet tine "criteria" to be classed as heavy bleeding. www.nhs.uk/conditions/heavy-periods/

Mine have been like that for years.

But forget hours.

I was flooding through tampon and of every 20 minutes. I also use to have clots come out twice the size of the tampon!

I've now been referred to gynae after failed mini pill and 2 failed mirena coils.

I have adenomyosis.

So although for some heavy periods are normal there can be an underlying condition.

Hey just to say I would get dr to do a blood test to check if you have anemia as if you have fatigue it could be lack of iron.

I only know this as I have heavy periods and struggle with anemia a lot xx

I had a heavy period and it was soaking through a super towel every hour, every 3 doesn't sound anything to be alarmed about personally. It's inconvenient though.
