Panicking after mammogram recall

Livinghereinallentown · 09/08/2021 13:01

I’m 52 and I’ve been recalled after a mammogram a couple of weeks ago. When I rang to confirm I would be attending I asked a few questions and was told it was my right breast that they wanted to look at again. The lady said I was listed for another mammogram on that breast, an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy.

The information she’s given me is making me really worried that there must be something there they want to look at more closely. I know that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s cancer but I’m definitely panicking.

Does anyone have advice or similar circumstances.

Was this your 1st mammogram? I ask, because I was recalled after my 1st one. They said this is very common, because they have no previous scans to compare, and will usually recall to be sure.

At the clinic they re-did a mammogram again, and also an ultrasound. They confirmed no issues and didn't need to do a biopsy.

I hope you dont have long to wait for your next appointment and wishing you all the best Flowers

this thread from earlier today has a discussion of perfectly harmless reasons why you might be recalled.

I imagine any query would trigger booking in the steps as a precautionary measure, so they can be put in place ASAP if required. Big if.

I hope everything will be ok. This happened to me on my first mammogram, I was called back for another mammogram, ultrasound & possible biopsy.

They carried out a biopsy & left a marker in for next time, thankfully everything was ok but the wait for results is really agonising you have my thoughts. In my experience the biospsy was done there & then & was painless.

I know (trust me) it's so so hard not to do but try not to worry too much at this stage & try not to google as that cost me so so much sleep & huge amounts of anxiety.

I sympathise. Its happened to me and quite a few of my friends. All of them were given the all clear. It can be for so many things, including just a crease in the skin. They are just very, very cautious which is a good thing - although it might not feel like it quite now!

I've just been diagnosed with breast cancer and had a lumpectomy last Monday.

But 2 friends of mine have been to the breast clinic and both lumps turned out to be cysts. The majority are nothing serious.

Take a book as you will probably be there for 3-4 hours. They are amazing at the breast clinics!

Please report back and feel free to DM if you want to

They will want to have a closer look at something they have seen on the mammogram. Even if they take a biopsy on the day it doesn’t mean they think you have cancer. They just want to make sure. In my experience they have a good idea after looking at the ultrasound/mammogram what they think the result will be and they are very honest with you about it.
Try not to worry - easier said than done I know.

Another voice to try and reassure you that it could be anything and nothing. I had a recall time before the last, another monogram and a follow up ultrasound.

It was only when they confirmed it was all OK, the 'shadow' on the original mammogram was not a lump after all, that I found myself feeling really emotional, as if a dam had burst within me.

Reader, I was smiling and thanking them politely amidst howling, tears and snotty nose. Classy. My point is that you are bound to feel concerned.

Hope it goes well with you, too

Had a recall on my mammogram last week to say I’m terrified is an understatement! They said there was a small density showing on one of my breasts I’m praying it’s just a cyst as it is uncomfortable sometimes when I lie on it - just need to try and keep calm but easier said than done
