Womens issues - constant bleeding on contraception

Hi all I wondered if anyone could help me as I think im going to have to stop taking the combined pill for good.

I’ve tried different combined pills for the past 16 years, for around the last 10 years no matter which brand I try, I bleed most days. Most recently around 2 months ago I started taking microgynon, the bleeding is constant, sometimes brown and sometimes bright red, I get period pain as well, even when I’m in the middle of the packet.

I am taking the pill to help with bad acne, I’m aged 29 and the pill really helps fight off the horrendous acne I get on my face and upper body. As for my general health (while not on the pill) I get such bad ovulation pain that I nearly pass out, almost had to call an ambulance and was terrified about 3 months ago, and have had so much time off work. This applies for period pain too it’s excruciating.

I’ve recently had one internal ultrasound and one on my abdomen, it apparently shows one fibroid but the measurements seem tiny (only mm not even cm). When I don’t take the pill my cycle is perfectly normal (I only bleed on my scheduled period), BUT the ovulation and period pain and acne are awful.

Im booked in to see a gynaecologist this month but considering the difficulty I’m going to have trying to explain the issues, I'm worried we won’t have enough time. Surely this is not normal to be suffering like this. My occupational health at work are constantly putting me as triggered for my high amount of sickness absence. The other month (actually while on the pill funnily enough) mid pill packet I was hit by a wave of what felt like period pain and I was stuck in one position crying on the phone to my husband because I could see the paracetamol packet but couldn’t move enough to reach it, the pain was so bad I was scared. After 45 minutes I dragged myself over to grab the paracetamol and I passed a huge clump of flesh at work the next day while bleeding. I don’t know what it was but it was actually grey and white and red in colour, very firm as well.

Im just sick of this, has anyone got any advice?

Thanks

I don't know the answer but i had a similar experience. I had heavy bleeding due to fibroids (which have since been treated) so first had a mirena which made me bleed / spot for more days than it didn't and actually made the bleeding heavier. I only took the combined pill for a couple of weeks before it gave me a migraine so never found out how that affected the bleeding and the progesterone only pill made me bleed daily for 11 out of the 14 weeks I took it! I tried asking my GP why these things don't work for me in the same way they do other people and she didn't seem to see what my point was! You have my every sympathy Flowers

Microgynon is a generic pill and can cause havoc for some people.
Have you considered the mini pill- less side effects but you take it constantly so you have no breakout bleed.
Can have some constant spotting for a while but period pains go away.
Speak to your gynaecologist for the best advice 🙂

@Danikm151if you're lucky that's what happens. See my post above! 11 long weeks of bleeding......

My poor 16 year old DD has this.
One pill made her very ill and depressed and the other one has not made any difference to her acne, pain or bleeding.
She has a scan booked next week so hopefully they will get an idea of what is going on
I hope you get some answers too soon OP. If we don’t we are will have to see a Private Gynae as I am sick of the GP not being interested

@Hoppinggreen I wish you all the best, I hope she gets some answers 💐💐
