IUD removal/insertion

New American expat here, when I got my first IUD inserted 5 years ago back in the states it was done by an ob/gyn, and it was quite a traumatic experience. Apparently my uterus or cervix is tilted. My doctor said it was one of the hardest insertions she's ever done, and after 2 failed attempts had to do it ultrasound guided to complete it.
However, from my understanding ob/gyns are less common to see here? Someone told me IUDs normally get done by a gp or midwife. Since I'll probably need to have it done with ultrasound again considering how difficult it was, do I ask my gp for a referral to a gyn? Or someone else? I'd really like to have this be less painful the 2nd time around so someone really experienced is a must (preferably with good options for pain relief!!)

Go to a family planning clinic. Google for ones in your area.

Most GPs no longer do the procedure, unless they have a special interest in family planning, and then they'll do it through a specialist clinic. At the clinic it will be done by a nurse or doctor who does them all day long, which is what you want.

They'll also have ultrasound to hand, if required. They used it to double check the fit on my last one. Good luck.
