3 1/2 week heavy period & clots

Hi,

Im 31 years old and i have PCOS. I usually have a period once every 6 months, thats normal for me. Its always steady normal flow and finished within 5-6 days. Anyway I started bleeding almost 4 weeks ago, started as spotting, but its developed into quite big clotts, and heavy. It seems to ease up but then before I know it im heavy again. Im exhausted, ive had some pain down one of my legs, and had the odd sharp pain in my side, which has gone. Ive done a pregnancy test to rule out ectopic, was negative. Anyway, i rang the doctors today and was told I cant be seen for two weeks as its not an emergency. Im so sad by this as i appreciate its not an emergency but its massively impacting my life. The receptionist wasnt having any of it and completely downplayed my request for an appointment as a heavy period 🙃 its a bit more than that. Ive been bleeding for coming up to a month, it's out of the norm for me, and the first time ive ever lost clots.

Am I over reacting, and is there anything I can do in the meantime to slow my period down?

Thanks
Natalie

Can you request a doctor calls you to discuss it, rather than waiting for an in-person appointment?

I don't think you're overreacting at all! Why does the receptionist need to know why you need an urgent appointment? Can you try with another doctor?

They arnt accepted face to face appointments 😒

I've had something similar and it is totally consuming. Please ring 111, at least it may be a route to an earlier GP appointment. Good luck.

Have you had your jab? I had the Moderna and had a dreadful period following my first one - 20 days bleeding with horrible clots, flooding, and bad period pain. I also have PCOS but regular periods (although I'm perimenopausal and on HRT at 48). It absolutely wasn't the norm and I didn't dare leave the house for several days. It did stop eventually but I'm awaiting my next period now I've had my second jab with trepidation.

I would absolutely ring 111 and tell them that the receptionist would not allow you to seek immediate medical advice, even over the telephone.

If you get no joy with 111 I would gently suggest A&E. I only say this as this is extremely unusual and in my view concerning to the effect that you at least need a doctor to examine you. You need to put your mind at rest.

Hope all is ok Flowers
