Mirena coil

I had a laproscopy last week and during it I had Mirena coil inserted.
Only bleed for a few hours after it.
The thing is I feel like a know it’s in me ? It feels like a tampon and is uncomfortable.
I have a dull ache in abdomen and lower back and it hurts when I pee.
I’m not sure if these side effects are normal or not? I actually feel like I want the thing out even though it’s only in since last week Sad

More a can be great for periods/ endometriosis/ contraception but there is a 6 month settling in period and women can take shorter or longer to get used to it. It can have a dull ache and/or irregular bleeding

I’d take a urine sample to GP just to get them to check it’s not a urine infection

Normally you wouldn’t be aware of it, I’d expect this feeling to go away in a few weeks. If you have increasing pain or a change in vaginal discharge I’d be wondering if pelvic infection.

I’m 6 months in and glad I stuck with it

One of the reasons I put off getting the coil for years was because I thought I’d be able to feel it all the time. I didn’t feel it at all actually! Have you had a feel for the strings yet? This will tell you if it’s started to come out if your cervix but this is uncommon.. Otherwise, it may just need time to settle in, don’t forget it’s a foreign object and your body has to learn to accept it. Hope it all settles down for you soon.

Hi, I know this is an old thread but really interested in how long it took for your Mirena coil to feel comfortable? I’m hoping it did! I feel exactly the same and mine was fitted on Saturday. I don’t have a urine infection but it feels like this, and like an uncomfortable tampon!
