Mirena coil bleeding when is too long?

I had the mirena coil put in on 17th of may so about 7 weeks. I have been bleeding since. A very light bleed More than spotting but enough for a pad. I’m getting fed up and had it put in for constant bleeding and thick lining. The consultant said I needed to go back in 4 months. When do I contact the gp / hospital ? Or will it get better?

I tolerated bleeding daily for 11 months before demanding it was removed. Some folk love them and have absolutely no issues. Unfortunately I wasn't one of them.

I did have my first jab of phizer the day after so this could contribute maybe?

I had 3 weeks solid bleed and 3 months to totally settle down. It was worth it in the end for me.

I had mine removed after 7 months as I was having bleeding or spotting nearly every day. I would bleed after sex every time too. After it was removed I had the heaviest period I’d ever had but now it seems back to normal with zero spotting in between. 7 weeks is very early, they say the bleeding should reduce by 3 months but it doesn’t for everyone. Hope things improve soon for you.

I got mines inserted last Jan and was still bleeding heavily (with gaps in between) in April and GP suggested mini pill on top for 6 months.

Periods haven’t stopped completely but much more tolerable.

It was pretty much the same for me.

6 months of daily light bleed/spotting then monthly after that until I gave up and had it taken out after 18 months.

I hate to say it but mine lasted a year with bleeding on more days than I didn't. Had heavier periods than before and spotting in between. It drove me crazy! It bled itself out thank goodness.

Mine was in for just over a year. It was also put in to deal with heavy flooding periods. It never settled and I bled for most of that time. Increasingly heavily towards the end. The only reason I put up with it for so long was because the Covid restrictions made getting an appointment for it's removal nearly impossible.

In the end I phoned the surgery and insisted on an appointment to remove it.

If it isn't suiting you then you may have to be quite assertive to get it removed. Don't be fobbed off as I was. They kept saying that it would settle, just needed more time - apparently indefinitely.

It may well be Pfizer. I have a copper coil. Had if fitted over a year ago whilst breastfeeding and never had a period with it. 10 days after the Pfizer jab and wham, huge period, flooding - couldn't keep a tampon in for more than 20 mins, and then I've had low level bleeding for weeks now.

Think I’ve just accepted it now as TMI it’s down to brown spotting everyday. Hoping it will go out eventually. I can’t get appointment to have the 6 week check . I guess it doesn’t mean it’s not working and can still have sex. Really want to take my little boy swimming too so fed up with it.

It’s usually advised to give it 3 months but I think we all have the optimism that it will work straightaway.

I'm having similar issues Rockinghorse, coil fitted in May, bled for about 7 weeks, stopped for 2 weeks, now been bleeding again for 3 weeks. Its light and manageable but I really, really want it to stop.

Demilunary · 30/07/2021 08:31

I had one fitted in February for uncontrolled bleeding, but thin, watery discharge continued so I still had to wear a pad — but it was better than the flooding before. Then I noticed it was looking a whole lot bloodier recently, more like a heavy period, and then I had a giant bleed, and the coil came out in a huge clot.

I have a consultation to discuss other options.
