Period pain kicking in again day 4/5 of period

Has anyone experienced this?

I have painful and heavy flow for the first 2 days. Day 3 is light and pain free. Then towards the end it’s like my womb kicks in again and the cramping, shooting pains and back ache along with fatigue and constipation start again and I get several more bursts of heavy flow, dark blood and sometimes clots. I have to be very careful not to think my periods ended as it really comes back with a vengeance

Is this normal??! It’s getting me down!!

My periods were sometimes like this and the cause in my case was endometriosis. I did think of endometriosis when I was reading your post, it’s a common cause of painful and heavy periods.

I would go to your GP and request that you are referred to a gynaecologist. Do not take no for an answer. In the meantime I would keep a pain and symptom diary noting everything and pain on a scale from 1-10.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

Do not put up with this, it’s not normal and it certainly warrants further investigation and treatment.

As I’ve got older my periods have changed a few times. I now get a heavy period for 3 days, then it suddenly stops and I think it’s over. Then I get another 24 hours of period, and I’ve had a clot the last two times. It’s almost like my womb is having a final push to clear it out !

How do they diagnose endo? I’ve heard it’s only via laparoscopic surgery?

Yes @DinosaurDiana that’s exactly what it feels like, complete with cramping!

I get the same, just as you think it's ok you have a day of bad pain/heavy flow and clots. I have fibroids so assumed it was connected to that, although I guess I could also be peri menopausal

DinosaurDiana · 02/07/2021 06:27

Mine is peri I assume.
I’ve had my womb scanned and it was clear.
OP - your age might be relevant on this.

GCAcademic · 02/07/2021 06:31

I have this. I am peri and also have fibroids, I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. My period now also lasts for 10 or 11 days.

Blank space

Endometriosis is usually diagnosed via laparoscopy ie keyhole surgery. Ultrasound scans do not usually detect endometriosis if it is there because the deposits are so small.

the pain and how you describe it along with your other symptoms made me think of endometriosis being a possible cause for all your symptoms. I would urge you to seek proper answers from a gynaecologist and do not be fobbed off.

This is exactly what I have and have had for years with other issues currently awaiting my lap date to see if its all down to endometriosis xx
