Bleeding after intercourse-when to see gp?

Hi, sorry tmi but would be helpful to have advice on when to see gp. Last night I dtd and didn’t realise at the time but I must have started bleeding afterwards as my pjs had blood on them. This morning it’s enough to seem like a period which is odd. Usually I have very irregular periods (about every 6-8 weeks minimum) however I have started the mini pill about 3 weeks ago on the first day of my last period. So normally to have a period after 3 weeks is unheard of. I don’t want to rush to the gp if this is bleeding because of the pill. Should I wait and see if it happens again next time and presume for now that this is coincidence and is because of the pill? Would people write off one incident of bleeding after sex or talk to gp straight away? Hope this makes sense!

Very likely to be the pill, the mini pill can really disrupt your cycle for a while. But do see your GP if it keeps happening after sex specifically.

If it's a period it's going to last more than a few hours surely? So if you're still bleeding, yes, probably a period from the mini pill. But if it's stopped completely, I'd think it's a once off and call the GP. Polyps can bleed during /after sex.

I’d go straight away, it is never usual to bleed after intercourse. You just need to book an appointment with the nurse and they can do some swabs and maybe a smear too if you are due. They can also send you for an ultrasound too as an extra check.

Thanks all, I think I was panicking this morning as it was so unexpected. So it appears to have stopped now. I’m going to see what happens next time and if it happens again will get seen.
