How was your first mirena coil insertion?

After suffering for years with awful period pains and now heavier periods and clots since having son, I spoke with the gp who recommended mirena coil.

I asked about the fitting process, she said she'd had it, no pain (and I specifically asked as I had a planned section with son so cervix never had to do anything 🤣)

It looked like a small proportion of people had pain when inserting / issues afterward and then I see an article at weekend about it being an awful painful process, should include local anaesthetic etc and lots of other women saying how horrible it was so m unsure whether I can do this now!

Any experiences welcome, good or bad, about having your mirena coil fitted?!

Mine was a copper IUD and the doctor had been fitting coiils for over 30 years and found it a struggle as she said my cervix was tight.

It was OK apart from a severe pinching which didn't last long, I also felt a bit sick and faint afterwards. I then bled for a few days with cramps.

Was worth it though and was easily removed by another doctor a few years later, who said my cervix was high.

No kids here, first one very pinchy but not much worse than a smear, second one lead to throwing up for an afternoon solid and cramping for a week.

Had second one removed in November because whislt it stopped by awful clotty periods, the other side affects were too much to live with. The removal was pretry much pain free

Mine was awful, I threw up afterwards. I had cramps for about 3 weeks afterwards as my body adjusted.

It was absolutely worth it. Now on my second, the second one going in was fine.
