Bleeding after LLETZ / LEEP

Looking for advice from others based on experience following a LLETZ / LEEP for the removal of cells after discovery of CIN2. I had the procedure on the 8th June, since then I have had watery discharge with a little brown tinge. Yesterday (11 days post LLETZ / LEEP) I suddenly (I mean very suddenly) started bleeding bright red blood, I’m 100% sure this isn’t a period bleed as I’m not having periods currently due to EBF DD, it also doesn’t look like period and I’ve had no period symptoms.

Did anyone else have bleeding start this long after the same procedure? It’s heavy, think moderate period day heavy, enough to change a pad multiple times throughout the day. Should I worry or get in touch with the gynae? Or is this just part of healing? Any advice welcome!

Thanks x

Yes this is exactly what I had . Mine wasn’t to bad after the procedure then about ten days later it went mad !

Had loads of bleeding bright red blood . That went on for a good week and I started to worry . But then suddenly it stopped then nothing .

A few weeks later I had my period and all was ok just usual amounts 👍.

Thank you so much for your reply @Bigbouncingbaby, that’s massively reassuring! Honestly I didn’t have a clue what was happening yesterday (and it started when I was getting changed in the bedroom). Did you feel wiped out also? I can’t decide if that’s a side effect of the bleeding or a baby who still wakes me multiple times a night!

Yeah a little I put that down to massive bloody loss 🤣🤣🤣 but probably the baby ! I was worried as the blood was so red but it stops as quickly as it started .

DobbieFreeElf · 20/06/2021 19:45

(Probably definitely the baby!) Thank you! Did you get the all clear after your next smear?

I had this too, a really strong gush of blood, and actually also some gunk that looked like coffee grounds, which was burnt tissue. Then my next period was really heavy too, a proper clear out!

I think if it smells bad it could be a sign of infection, so look out for that.

DobbieFreeElf · 20/06/2021 20:25

Thanks @Appin, no infection smell at the moment. I have also had some gunk but bright red rubbery clots. I don’t know when I’ll have my next period but as it will be the first in over 18 months and after this I’m sure it will be heavy heavy heavy!

Same here - it took about a week or more before the bleeding started. Then I think that lasted about four weeks. There was a smell but more like tail end of a period, nothing vile, and apparently that was normal. I had to have another smear after 6 months and got the all clear then.

Auntycorruption · 20/06/2021 20:46

I had this also. Bleeding for ages which alternated between heavy & light. Eventually went to GP who checked for infection and gave tranexamic acid to stop it

DobbieFreeElf · 20/06/2021 21:19

Thanks @SilverGlassHare and @Auntycorruption good to hear it’s not unusual although I’m not looking forward to the prospect of weeks of bleeding. I really hate liners! Trying to use the reusable ones I had for post-DD but everything is fairly uncomfortable right now! C’est la vie!

Oh yeah I forgot the no tampon rule, that was really annoying! Have you tried period pants? I got some from mobi body lately and they're pretty good.
DobbieFreeElf · 20/06/2021 21:45

I might have a look at those @Auntycorruption, especially if I’m in for the long haul, thanks for the suggestion

Hi sorry only just had my procedure last month . Got to wait 6 months for the next smear . Fingers crossed. I must say using tampons on my latest period was a luxury 🤣

SilverGlassHare · 22/06/2021 18:28

Yes, the whole thing was really crappy. I just kept telling myself, it’s better than the alternative.

PineappleTart · 22/06/2021 18:31

Hey, hopefully it's back to normal now. I was told at about day 10 that I'd have a big bleed that's part of the healing process, and they were pretty spot on.

DobbieFreeElf · 22/06/2021 21:51

That’s exactly what I’ve said @SilverGlassHare

@Bigbouncingbaby hope it’s all ok on your next smear

@PineappleTart still bleeding, still fairly heavy, feeling absolutely whacked but again I think that’s probably the sleep resisting baby!

So my bleeding has suddenly got worse again this evening, I’m just over 2 weeks past the procedure, it’s a fairly consistent trickle, doesn’t smell awful (like infection) but does have a bit of a whiff to it (sorry tmi) would you contact the gynae or wait a few more days and see if it settles?

OP posts:
PineappleTart · 23/06/2021 21:38

Any kind of whiff beyond the smell of a normal period I'd get it checked out

Winewednesday · 24/06/2021 10:50

Hi Op, I would speak to gynae. I had the procedure and was giving a cause of antibiotics due to a slightly odd smell. Hope you get your results soon

SilverGlassHare · 25/06/2021 12:57

Like I mentioned above, my discharge didn’t smell great - it smelt like the end of a period does sometimes. But I called to check that was normal and was reassured, and I agree with PPs that you should do that too.
