My poor sore tummy warning (pic attached)

Had a hysterectomy earlier this week. So sore and the belly button wound is the worst. I can see behind the dressing it’s very bruised. My tummy is also swollen, it’s like a little barrel! I’m taking painkillers every 4 hours still. I’m so fed up now. No point to this post really I’m just moaning!

I will get the histology in a couple of weeks, it’s a potential cancer - 40% chance apparently. Will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Poor you. I hope all comes back clear. Rest rest rest. And try to look forward to time where you have no pain or stress x

MissyB1 · 30/05/2021 14:33

Thanks yes I’m reading lots and sitting in the sun or lying on the bed. Planning future holidays!

That looks painful. I really hope you get good results. Were you told to expect swelling like that?

SpindleWhorl · 30/05/2021 14:38

Hey, @MissyB1. I did need antibiotics after about 10 days for my belly button incision.

The gas and bloating following the laparoscopic surgery was horrendous. Poor you Flowers Take it easy if you can.

MissyB1 · 30/05/2021 14:40

@SpindleWhorl yes the wind pain and bloating are just horrible, and that definitely seems worse in the evening for some reason 🤔 Very tricky to sleep at night.

TheCanyon · 30/05/2021 14:41

Have you got peppermint tablets to take for the wind?

I hope all is ok Flowers

SpindleWhorl · 30/05/2021 14:44

I was given lactose to bring home. Also it helped to not lie in my back too much. A bit of gentle walking around the room helped.

What painkillers are you on? I get codeine induced constipation which makes bloating and gas even worse 😱

SpindleWhorl · 30/05/2021 14:44

lactulose, ffs

MissyB1 · 30/05/2021 14:50

I’m taking dulcoease to soften the poo, and Rennie deflatine for the wind. I’m allergic to codeine unfortunately so just taking paracetamol and Ibuprofen for pain.

That belly button looks quite red and sore.
Could it be infected?
Has a doctor seen the pic?

Hardchoices · 30/05/2021 14:54

Would it help to get up and wander about a bit. It helped me after c sections to relieve trapped wind and generally soreness.

MissyB1 · 30/05/2021 14:58

No not seen a Dr since I was discharged on Wednesday morning. If it’s no better tomorrow I will ring GP, perhaps the practice nurse might see me.

SpindleWhorl · 30/05/2021 14:59

@MissyB1 I'd get that belly button seen to, and ask for some better pain relief.

I think I had the number of the gynae dept given to me when I went home, to use as needed in the first week; or was told to ring my GP or out-of-hours/111, depending on day/time.

MissyB1 · 30/05/2021 14:59

@Hardchoices yes I potter around the house and garden. Will have a little walk up the street in a bit. Trying to build up my activity slowly.

Keep an eye for a temp, do the symptom checker thingy ^

MissyB1 · 30/05/2021 15:14

I’ve got the specialist nurse number, i know she’s off for the bank holiday so I couldn’t ring her till Tuesday anyway. I think I will be ok till then. At least my bladder and bowel are working ok!

I feel your pain. This is mine 8 days post surgery ☹️. I hope you feel better soon Flowers

MissyB1 · 30/05/2021 16:07

@Rfjkf oh my that looks painful! Poor you! Blimey what our poor bodies go through Sad

How is it today @MissyB1?

MissyB1 · 31/05/2021 09:18

@TheQueef thank you for asking 😊 it looks the same. I had a bad night with pain but in all honesty I didn’t rest enough yesterday, I had my adult dc over and it felt a bit hectic. I think I paid the price for that.
Going to try and eat some breakfast so that I can take painkillers, feeling a bit nauseous though.

OP posts:
TheQueef · 31/05/2021 15:04

Maybe best to call nurse tomoz regardless.
You do need to rest though. Just because the holes are small you've still had a major reshuffle!
Try and space the meds out to maximise pain relief, no codeine is an uphill battle.
Get those feet up and enjoy the good weather I'm sending restful vibes Smile

You have had a major op, you should be resting!. I agree your wound looks like it might be infected. Contact your go / nurse first thing to ask for a visit. If it is infected, it’ll feel so much more painful! Remember, rest, rest and then rest some more x

SeaToSki · 31/05/2021 15:17

You can try a heating pad on your bloated stomach, it helps a bit with the wind, I also found mint tea helpful. Just be careful of the heat on your wounds. You def need to get the incisions checked tomorrow

Hope you feel better soon

Duchess379 · 31/05/2021 15:34

Oh crickey, that does look sore. I had a hysterectomy at 38. I've only been left with 2 tiny incision scars and felt ok straight after. Obviously I was really lucky. 🥺

NoNobramma · 31/05/2021 15:36

The redness is the colour of the dressing surround I think.

Hope you’re feeling a little better each day @MissyB1
