Cervical cancer takes years to develop so if you don't even have cell changes then it's very very unlikely that you will get cervical cancer between now and then
As for not having sex then unless you tend to never have sex again in your life then just carry on as moral
Hpv is as common as the common cold
Most people will never know they have it

Thank you for your reply .. I think am just letting my mind run away with itself like what if they missed the abnormal cells etc ... and wasn't expecting hvp and both my smears before have been okay but I will just have to wait the year and see what they say xx

Yeah I'm waiting too
I will see in sept if it's still there or it caused cell changes

Was a shock to me too

The timing is based on how long it would take abnormalities to develop.

Cervical screening is aiming to find pre-cancerous changes to offer intervention to prevent cancer developing. It's not a "everything ok" or "OH NO YOU HAVE CANCER" scenario. Abnormal cells doesn't mean cancer in most cases. HPV doesn't automatically mean cancer either, just higher risk and therefore closer monitoring until it resolves (which it usually does).

The NHS website has clear info on HPV and cervical screening that might put your mind at rest, because it has definitely run away on you like an out of control freight train.
