Endometriosis & constipation. Are they linked?

I have known that I've had endometriosis since the age of 17. I have always had constipation problems sometimes going only once a week. No matter what I have done nothing seems to help me become more regular than once or twice a week. I have tried fibre supplements prescribed from the Dr, upping my fibre intake to 25-30g a day, drinking 3 litres of water a day, bowel massage and more. Nothing helps. For the last few years I have resorted to taking Sennakot Max when I need to go. Because my body is used to them I have to take 3 of the pills max strength pills to get a bowel movement. Then the next day I'll usually go 2-3 times and feel so much better.

My husband isn't very understanding of my issue and pokes fun at me joking about my 'poo pills' and just says I'm not normal and need to get it looked into. It's embarrassing and I'm also worried for my longer term health as to the effect that holding in fecal matter so regularly and for such long periods of time will be.

What I'm wondering is if my constipation could be linked to my endometriosis. I have had 3 laparoscopic surgeries in my life. The last 2 being in the last 10 years just to check on my tubes while I was TTC. I have found the Dr's to be of little help or reassurance post op. Quite dismissive and I never really got a clear picture of the damage that my Endo has caused me inside. I'm actually (as much as I'm aware) not in that much pain due to endo. So I've never really pursued more of an explorative diagnosis.

Has anyone else with endo been super constipated? Up until a few months ago I never thought the two could be linked

If you google it, constipation is a possible symptom of endo. As is diarrhoea though - I guess it affects people differently. I've been having symptoms for the last 6 months which I now suspect strongly are endo. I think you need to go back to the doctor. Your husband sounds very unpleasant and unsympathetic. Flowers

Thanks, and yes I know I can google it and I have. Not found that many first hand accounts of it though. Just wanted to know other peoples experiences and if they found anything that helped

Yes - if you have bowel adhesions, as I did, endo can send your bowel haywire.

... and nothing really helped, other than treating the endo, I'm sorry to say. Normal bowel meds had no effect.
