How do you know when you have thrush?

Do you get the itch and assume, go to the Dr or buy that indicator test kit?

I feel like I'm always getting something!

Have you been tested for diabetes?

Lelophants · 03/05/2021 18:32

I tend to just know the feeling.... I don't bother testing I just buy the treatment and it's gone within a few days.

If it feels itchy, beyond a normal itch, then I tend to presume it’s thrush and treat with caneston cream. If this eases it a bit but not totally, I’ll take the oral capsule. If you get a hand mirror and check down below you will probably see how red your bits are and there will probably be lots of white creamy discharge. I used to get thrush a lot when we were using condoms, I rarely get it now since my dh had the snip.

Don’t get the test kits - expensive waste of money.
All it is is a bit of pH paper. If your pH is normal but you have itching, the kit says it might be thrush.

GPs won’t routinely test unless you’ve had it lots of times but they’d probably prescribe you treatment if you had classical symptoms. You can also buy thrush treatment over the counter.
If you’ve had it a few times I’d advise going to your local sexual health clinic who can look at discharge under the microscope and confirm it is thrush + test for other infections including STIs if you want.
If you get it often (more than 4 times in a year) then you need a prolonged course of treatment, again most sexual health clinics will have a specialist who will deal with these sorts of issues
