Biopsy on breast ?

Rollingstones84 · 02/05/2021 17:45

Hello ! Has anyone had to have a breast biopsy ? Obviously the wait is unbearable :(... but was wondering if anyone could give me some positive outcomes?... I'm thinking the worst that they only give a biopsy if they think pretty sure it's cancer ?.:/.. just was wondering if anyone could give me some reassurance on a good outcome?... thanks x

I had one many years ago, not cancer. A cyst maybe

OverTheRainbow88 · 02/05/2021 17:50

I’ve had 2, both fine. Good luck

God no, majority of biopsies are benign. I had one, harmless fibrodaema. In my NHS area, all lumps are routinely biopsied.
My understanding is that if anything is found, you usually hear within days. I waited 3 weeks before started to phone, then got told it was nothing. Very long 3 weeks.
Good luck.

I had one to confirm diagnosis of a fibroadenoma.

IME they generally have a good idea on the day of whether the lump is suspicious or not, what did they say at the ultrasound?

LostArcher · 03/05/2021 12:19

I had one. It was cancer. Process was very quick and although a bit eeeeek! At times, was doable. Fours years on and am fine.

I had one, they were sure it was nothing by the ultrasound but did it anyway. It was just a fibroadenoma. I'm sure it will be nothing to worry about :) x

Hi , They said they think it is fatty tissue / and something else I tried to take it all in :(... but he did say he's not too worried x but I can't help but think they are mistaken ! I'm just still worried as I wasn't expecting a biopsy I think x

I had a biopsy last week; still haven’t had the results but the surgeon was pretty confident it is glandular tissue. The biopsy itself was not too bad, painless really, a bit uncomfortable after, but mostly fine. Some spectacular bruising though!

I think many of the ones that come back as cancerous, the patient will know already that the surgeon is expecting that result. If he seems relaxed about it, he’s probably just making sure.

I've had 2 biopsies. The first one a few years ago was a fibroadenoma. The second one a couple of months ago was a breast cancer. I was told on the day of the biopsy that they thought it was very likely grade one with no node involvement and they were correct. I believe they can tell a lot from that first appt. Be reassured that 3 out of 4 women who attend breast clinic appts are not diagnosed with cancer. If it is anything that needs treatment you will be seen quickly and treated well. I cannot praise the NHS enough for my treatment over the last few weeks, they have been amazing. The waiting is the worst. Once you know what you are dealing with you have something to focus on. Good luck.

Another positive story, I had a biopsy which was just a fibroadenoma. It was sore but OK! Can't recall how quickly I heard back.

I ended up having it removed a few years later under GA as it was causing me some pain. But all OK!

Irishterrier · 03/05/2021 14:05

My friend had a biopsy last Tuesday and was called by the doc to be told it was cancer on Thursday.

Good luck OP
