Breast clinic referral- non urgent- how to cope with wait/worry

I have had a strange pain in my left breast for approx 4 weeks, it's achy/burny- not really painful but I am constantly aware of it. Have also had some nipple discharge 3 times during that period, only a bit and really randomly. Did a self exam and found what feels to me like a little lump.
Left breast is also significantly larger than the right and is now really noticeable.
Have been to gp who did an exam, said could feel what I could feel but thinks it's fatty tissue. Have been referred to breast clinic but non urgently. Anyone experience of this and how long the wait was?
My breast is sore and I can't get out of my head that it's something sinister (which it likely isn't- but doesn't stop me worrying)
I'm 32 which I assume is why she wasn't overly concerned?

Oh bless you. I went through this a few months Ago (a cyst) and there's no easy way to get through it. Just remember this too shall pass, and whatever happens you'll be okay.

I feel your pain (literally) OP.

I’ve had a tender right breast several days now, basically it didn’t go away with my period as it normally would. My cycle seems a bit odd too.

I had a breast clinic referral about 7 years ago after finding a very small lump on the right side. Was told it was dense fibrocystic tissue and nothing to worry about.

I get breast pain before my period usually and most times it affects both sides.

This current pain is unusual but I’m goi g to wait for my next period and see what happens.

I would say in your case, given your age and the non urgent referral, it’s very likely to be something benign.

Thank you for replying :)
I got a call today and have an appt at breast clinic a week monday! They said any referral to them is the standard 2 weeks.
Trying not to think about it too much. My boob is sore tho. Never had breast pain due to periods before so it just feels odd and is constant. Can only describe as a strange burning but kind of cold feeling ha!

Hopefully it's nothing to worry about. I will try to distract myself for the next week

Be reassured by the fact that 3 out of 4 women who attend breast clinic appointments are not diagnosed with cancer. The service and treatment offered are second to none. You will be well looked after. Good luck with your appointment.
