How quick does Tranexamic Acid take to work?

As above! Started period on Friday, has been fairly standard and manageable up until this evening when I have had to change tampon 4 times since 6pm. I have taken 2 tranexamic acid tablets just now, first time since having them prescribed last month. Obviously I wont get another dose in before I go to bed, is the one dose likely to have any impact? Or am I going to be up all night.....

To be fair, it did stop the heavy bleeding on Sunday night, and again Monday morning. I wonder if it works differently on people. I took 3 doses yesterday and one this morning, day 5 of my period now and the bleeding has all but stopped. Now I don't know if I should carrying on taking them?? I'm finding it quite confusing.

@CanIHaveAHolidayPlease

I am waiting for a gynaecology referral and my GP is happy to dose me up on anything that helps until then. I have been offered to have my periods hormonally stopped but would rather not if I can manage them another way. Thank you I will speak to my GP and ask if I can try doing similarly. I would love to have 1/4 of my life back. With that tranexamic acid the bleeding is manageable, with the mefenamic acid my cramps were helped but bleeding was awful, so if I can combine the two I might finally not have a week a month basically incapacitated.

I hope you don't have to wait too long!! I had some fibroids removed last year and it slowed the bleeding down for a couple of months then no change whatsoever.

I have now discovered I have more. I can feel them and am now pregnant and the damn things have shown up on an ultrasound again!! Probably gonna have to have a hysterectomy eventually as hormonal treatments just don't suit me!

I hope they can sort you ASAP!!

Thank you 😊 I'm sorry you've been through the mill I hope you get some lasting relief even if that does mean a hysterectomy
