Breakthrough bleeding with the pill

I’ve recently come back on the pill after having a few years break and I’ve been experiencing some new symptoms that have never happened before.

For the past 9 days, I’ve experienced some breakthrough bleeding. It’s extremely light and some days is only noticeable when I wipe, but other days it’s a little bit heavier. At first I did get quite bad cramping which is unusual for me because when I’m having a regular period, I barely get any cramps if I even get them at all. I have been taken ibuprofen to cope with this, which I don’t really want to be taking for too long.

Is it normal to have breakthrough bleeding for this long and is there anything I can do to stop it?

You've been bleeding for 9 days? Is this your first month back on the pill?

Just asking to make sure I've read you right.

I'd say that's quite normal. Usually GPs suggest 3 months before your adjust to the new pills.

It's not pleasant, but something many women have, unfortunately.

I had this continuously on the pill after being fine for several years. I finally got a type that worked okay then started again.

I have a coil now which is much better.
