I'm the Op from the thread @emmathedilemma linked above. My experience was really unpleasant, however yours doesn't need to be.
You need to be aware that you can ask them to stop at any time, and you are not weak or pathetic if you do so. It sounds so silly, but I think part of my bad experience came from inexperience/lack of knowledge/believing there was something wrong with me. If it hurts, then it bloody hurts, and you can tell them to stop.
There is a chance that it won't. I've read a lot about it since my failed procedure last week, and found there is a whole range of experiences, from terrible, like mine, to quite positive.
I still feel it is quite an invasive procedure to have without GA, however I know how important these investigations are. Just please don't feel bad if you have to tell them to stop. I didn't, just let them keep going until I was in agony, thinking my pain must somehow be my fault.
