Morning After Pill + Smear Test

Hi all,

Just went for my smear test and was told that as I’ve recently taken the morning after pill, I can’t have a smear for three months.

Had this happened to anyone else?

Nurse kept saying that any “termination of pregnancy” precludes a smear. But the morning after pill ≠ a termination of pregnancy.

Bit confused!

Anyone with experience of this who can advise?

Totally agree with you. Taking the mornig after pill is not the same as a termination of pregnancy. The morning after pill prevents ovulation. The nurse is misinformed.
Don't see why you can't have a smear. There was no pregnancy.

Oh no! I've taken the emergency contraceptive pill today and I have a smear booked next week 😬

Completely not true. With modern smear technology (eg HPV testing via a computer lab test) most of the time, they're not even looking at the cervical cells under a microscope now, but even so, the morning after pill or even pregnancy won't affect this.
