Smear test

I'm due my first smear test this year. Has anyone been able to have an IUD fitted the same time?

I gave birth early 2020 and have been waiting ever since for a coil fitting which obviously wasn't happening due to the pandemic.

My thoughts are, since they'll be up there can they roll it into one appointment?!

It wouldn’t be one appointment though. It would have to be a double appointment so they had enough time to do everything, so you would need to phone the practice and get the receptionist to ask the nurse if they would be happy to do it, and then book an appropriate slot.

I know it wouldn't be one appointment. I'm asking if it's something that can be done, as in if someone has had it done themselves.

In our surgery it's a nurse who does the smear and a doctor who fits coils, so you would t be able to have it done at the same time.

I just had a doctor do the coil, and they wouldn't combine the coil fitting and smear, but have combined the 1 month coil follow up with the smear. So 2 appointments instead of 3.

In theory, If they are happy to, which is why you need to phone your surgery to check and book an appropriate slot, but I was saying it won’t be one appointment because....

The last line wasn't to be taken to literally. I'd prefer not to have 2 invasive vaginal appointments so was merely hoping it was possible to avoid.

I couldn't call yesterday as they were closed for training so I thought I'd ask in case anyone has any experiences before I got in touch.

But thanks anyways, it's sorted now.

And by 'one appointment' I meant that I know it would be a double appointment as it's 2 separate issues but I didn't know it would have to be done by a nurse and doctor.

Nurses do smears, and specially trained doctors do coil fittings (usually). There may be only one doctor at your surgery who does them so waiting times may be long!!
