Bleeding after sex

About a week ago I randomly started bleeding for no reason even though my period wasn't due. It was quite heavy and red. I was having an exceptionally stressful week so I put it down to stress/hormones. Then last night I had sex and afterwards I realised there was some blood. Neither of these things are normal for me. I'm 34, married (so shouldn't be an STD but never say never). I appreciate I need to visit the docs but just wondering if anyone else has had this and what it could be?

Do go as you've already said.

Could be ectropian cervix, I've had this and causes bleeding after sex. Is caused by hormones I think and will go away on it's own with no issue. Try not to worry too much x

I had this. It was a cervical ectropian. In the end I went to hospital to get it quarterized, a painless quick procedure, because it didn't clear up on its own so was given that option

yarncakes · 13/02/2021 21:51

I had it and there was no reason as to why it happened. Thank god it hasn't happened since but if it keeps persisting then definitely see a gp. It could be fibroids?

Teardrop2021 · 13/02/2021 21:54

Following this has been happening to me 3 times now after having sex

longtompot · 13/02/2021 22:20

Fibroids and polyps can cause this. Keep a diary, and try and see your gp.

I had this about 7 years ago. Dr ordered a pelvic check and did a smear test as it was due around then. Found out I had moderate change to cervical cells, it got treated and the bleeding stopped. I know there could be many reasons so hope they get to the bottom of it. Good luck x

Dotinthecity · 13/02/2021 22:21

I had this and it was a caused by a polyp which I had removed.

ItsTheDramaMickILoveIt · 13/02/2021 22:39

I’ve not had this but I do have a cervical extropion (spotted at a smear test and checked out by a gynae) and they did say it can cause bleeding after sex or the odd bit of spotting.

Absolutely worth getting checking out though, peace of mind - I have health anxiety and the worry ends up causing me more grief than the symptoms!

Thanks so much all

Mine was cervical erosion, consultant said caused by coming off the pill.
Put up with it for a couple of years but ended up having it cauterised.

I have this. It's been very slow getting any answers. I have already had an ultrasound nearly a year ago and nothing seen but it was not done transvaginally. I now have another ultrasound booked.
