Night sweats

Thought I would put straight away really struggling at the minute with health anxiety. I’m 42 and been having period problems for years took 6 IVF to get pregnant !
I’ve been having lots of heavy bleeding and then spotting that goes in for weeks. After tests I’ve been given northisterone as I have low progesterone. I took them for a week in January had terrible side effects but did the job brought in my period.
For the past 2.5 weeks I’ve been having terrible night sweats absolutely drenched. I’m very stressed about it and worrying about cancer - I know I shouldn’t google! I’ve had night sweats in the past sometimes before my period but freaking out. Some reassurance please.

It could be perimenopause - I got horrific night sweats with it in my 30s.

Rockinghorse2019 · 11/02/2021 12:53

Does it matter when in your cycle you are?

Thyroid? I know that's a bit of a go to for things but I get night sweats when my thyroid is out of whack.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 11/02/2021 14:09

I don’t think it does matter where you are in your cycle for peri. I used to get them randomly even though I was regular as clockwork. I’ve now had a hysterectomy (inc ovaries) and still get them. I have no hormones so I don’t know why I get them some nights and not others.
Try not to worry but do book in to see your GP, it’s what they are there for - and don’t be fobbed off with “it’s to be expected you are a woman”. Get full blood work including thyroid.

Am I overacting about something more serious?
I had an pelvic ultrasound on Tuesday so waiting for gp to phone with results so will mention it then.

It sounds very much like peri menopause.
If you had issues getting pregnant, it could be hormonal.
Read up on peri menopause. Website of Dr Louise Newson is great.
Pop along to your GP or have a phone chat. You need blood tests to show early menopause (that's before age 45) and if it is, the medical advice from NICE is to start HRT.

JinglingHellsBells · 11/02/2021 22:07

@Martinisarebetterdirty You're getting night sweats as you will have no estrogen. Have you not been offered HRT? I

Martinisarebetterdirty · 12/02/2021 07:41

@JinglingHellsBells I’m negotiating! I have a history of estrogen reactive breast cancer so there is some reluctance from my surgeon. We have a follow up in a few weeks and if she won’t give it me I’m going to see a menopause specialist. (I’ve read a lot of your posts - you are always so helpful thank you Flowers)

No nights sweats for the past few days now boobs feel tender . It’s one stress after the other at the minute!

Evening primrose for the boob pain and decrease your caffeine. Honestly, it works. Ask for tranexamic acid to lighten your periods. Anxiety will cause night sweats if you're worrying enough about things. Get the period thing sorted and then see if you still get the night sweats.

Rockinghorse2019 · 15/02/2021 20:33

Can your boobs feel tender any part of the month ?
Wondering if it could still be side effects after taking northisterone a couple of weeks ago (although only took for 10 days day 21 to 31!)

Rockinghorse2019 · 16/02/2021 08:30

Sweated in the night last night and it’s only day 16 of my cycle Hmm boobs still tender like when I was pregnant. Getting quite anxious now.

Hormones are a funny old thing. Best to talk to your GP. Why are you anxious it's cancer when the most likely explanation for symptoms is that they are menopausal? Sounds classic to me?

Rockinghorse2019 · 17/02/2021 13:33

Thank you for your advice. I’m quite stressed at the minute so thinking worst case scenario. I really shouldn’t google things!

Speaking to doctor on Monday and seeing a gynaecologist next week about period issues to will ask him.

OP posts:
januhairyfebruhairy · 18/02/2021 13:53

That sounds very sensible

Rockinghorse2019 · 18/02/2021 16:55

They think they have found uterine polyps that couldn’t be impacting my hormones could it?

OP posts:
januhairyfebruhairy · 20/02/2021 18:07

Don't think so, you'd have to ask a doctor. Ovaries and pituitary secrete hormones, not uterine lining I think.

Rockinghorse2019 · 26/02/2021 12:05

Had blood tests and all normal !

OP posts:
januhairyfebruhairy · 27/02/2021 09:38

Ah that's brilliant. Hope that has settled your fears. What next?

Rockinghorse2019 · 27/02/2021 12:43

Not sure when I phoned they said no further action. I have an appointment with a gynaecologist this week. Could be the northisterone maybe.

OP posts:
januhairyfebruhairy · 27/02/2021 13:33

Ah - the gynae person should sort you out and know their onions. Hope it goes ok.
