Post myomectomy recovery

Hi all. Just had a myomectomy 3 days ago due to heavy bleeding since giving birth 5 months ago. I had 4 fibroids removed. Two were huge and two were tiny. I was told the biggest one was pushing into the lining of my womb and therefore causing the constant bleeding. I am still bleeding now but have read this is normal for 1-2 weeks post surgery. My questions for those that have been through this:
How long did you bleed for post op?
How and when was your next period? Was it heavier/lighter?
How long did it take you to fully recover from surgery?
Did anyone do any post surgery scar massaging once healed? I’ve been told silicone pads help

Following with interest as in due for mine next month. I hope you recover soon. What is the pain like after surgery and can you move around?

It is painful but I can move around. Sleeping is a struggle as it is hard to move around in bed. I have been told to walk for ten mins per day and gradually increase this everyday. It’s important to stay mobile. I am still bleeding but I have been told to expect this. I have been taking paracetamol.

That was my third myomectomy. The first two were more conservative in an attempt to preserve fertility. I definitely needed the 6 weeks they gave me off work. I was still sore 3 months later and honestly, I stayed sore for a year, but that is because I got pregnant. I had a not quite normal period 6 weeks after. After my first normal period about 10 weeks after the doctor told me to start getting to it because in my case the odds of conceiving were extremely small, but the increased risk from conceiving quickly was also small. and we couldn’t officially start fertility treatment until I had healed for 6 months. Turns out the fibroid had been the only thing stopping me getting pregnant because dd was born almost exactly a year after my surgery. It was a mandatory csection by the head obstetrician but other than that everything was normal. I think I got the timings right here. I might be miscounting the weeks because it was 13 years ago. It might have been 8 and 12 or something, but you get the idea. My cycle returned pretty quickly and the heavy bleeding was gone, but I only had one period before I got pregnant so didn’t really get a good test.

After dd was born my periods were heavy and anemia inducing, but not crazy heavy and weeks long like they had been before.

Oh and the absolute worst activity was trying to run the Hoover. Don’t do that one until you feel better.

That’s good to hear that it was a success. I didn’t even know I had fibroids until I got pregnant and suffered from bleeding almost throughout pregnancy. My concern at the moment is if it was worth having the surgery. I am still bleeding and have this fear that I’ll go back to heavy bleeding and clotting like before.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I bled so much I’ve the past year that I became severely anemic. Started feeling normal again after iron infusions but I seem to be bleeding more.
@MixedUpFiles really great you conceived! I won’t be having any more babies. My concern is about movement after the op as I’m a single mum and no family around to help. But I can’t go in with the bleeding.
@Sunny866 how are you feeling?

Can I ask if your gynae inserted a mirena coil? Mine said he would as I think it helps to stop the walls collapsing. Really don’t want one. I think he will remove it after 3 weeks.

My gynae suggested the mirena coil but when he saw the size of the fibroids he said it wouldn’t help to control the bleeding.
I am feeling ok and luckily I have husband and mum around to help with the baby. I just hope the bleeding stops soon. The main pain is when walking or trying to get up off the bed or sofa

Mirena post-surgery. No way I will have one as an alternative to surgery.
That’s great you have support. I hope you heal quickly. Do you have any tips for things that helped with hospital stay or immediately after the op?

Pack big underwear and clothing that won’t sit on the cut eg a nightie. Take plenty of books magazines iPad etc depending on the length of your stay. I stayed 2 nights. Pack sanitary towels etc. Plenty of water too as you could be constipated post op
