String of skin coming from vagina

Hi,

I have started using the menstrual cup (which is great btw) and I have today noticed almost a thick string of skin coming from the vagina - from the fleshy bit. Its 1-2cm long and its stretchy and I'm unsure of what it is! Sorry for TMI! I am sexual active and haven’t noticed this before.

Almost certainly hymen tags. I have them; my midwife told me what they were and didn't bat an eyelid. If you had a thicker than average hymen something will be left behind when it snaps (and there are different kinds of hymen too; google it - this may affect what is left).
I guess they could be surgically removed if they bother you, but it would likely be classed as a cosmetic procedure and therefore not available on the NHS.

I would go to her but just wanted an idea of what it could be first. Didn’t want to go there and worry its for nothing!

I think it's genetic so if you have a daughter, that's something to be aware of. An imperforate hymen (no hole at all) might not be diagnosed until she is late to start her periods (because the blood has nowhere to exit and can build up inside) and a septate one can cause issues with sex and with tampon use (getting a full one out, if not inserting a unexpanded dry one).
Minor conditions and easily rectified with a small operation but not well known -and potentially very awkward for a teenager to discuss with a parent or doctor.
