Spotting in between period

I have been getting some light spotting for a few days a month, about halfway between my period - so about 2 weeks before my period begins/2 weeks after it ends. It's not heavy - I could wear one pad for the entire day and it would not be filled. It's often so light I barely notice, until I wipe when I go to the toilet - but it's definitely not in my urine. It has been happening for approximately the last six months.

I have read that light spotting in between your period is normal for some women, but I am in my 30s and this is new for me. I am not on any contraception, I have been tested for STD's and came back clear, and there is 0% chance of pregnancy.

I have finally managed to book in a smear which I hope will put my mind at rest, but in the meantime I'm wondering if anyone has ever had similar?

I went to the GP with exactly this just this month (after ignoring it for months and months). She felt my tummy, took some swabs and said some women just have this. I assume the swabs were fine because I didn't hear anything. I was worried like you beforehand, but it was fine. Go and see the GP to put your mind at rest though.

Thank you pain. Had you always had normal periods until recently too then? I have had STD tests and a urine test which all came back fine and have a smear test booked. I've had to cancel the smear twice already, once because I had covid symptoms, but fingers crossed it will third time lucky and I'll get to be seen.

Yes, I have always had normal periods before. I can't remember really when it started - I just became aware of it over several months. I had a normal smear test recently too, so hopefully you'll feel reassured after that.

I really hope everything comes back normal when I have my smear test. More than one member of my family has had a cancer diagnosis recently so I think that's why this is playing on my mind. Your post is reassuring. Thank you again.

@BaggoMcoys I could have written this!
I have had completely normal periods since they started (I'm in my 30's) and have had spotting for the first time ever half way between periods. Like you said, hardly any and not enough to fill a pad.
I was going to leave it for a couple of cycles before contacting the GP, as it's only happened the once so far.
But I don't know whether it's something to worry about. I know some women have very irregular cycles and maybe it's just something that happens as you get older?!
My smear is up to date. I have been diagnosed with fibroids (no tx needed) and have read this can be the cause, so maybe that!
Hopefully your smear is fine, keep us posted as I would be interested to know why this happens Smile

Thank you captainprincess. I've had to postpone my smear because my period started. It's lighter than my usual period, and two weeks earlier than it should be, but it's definitely a period.

I've been going through a lot of stress recently so suspected that as the cause but interesting to know it's happened to others too. Maybe it is an age thing. I find it very annoying! Fingers crossed I make my next smear and can get other causes ruled out!

Ah that is annoying. I know you can still have your smear on your period, but frankly who wants too! So I would have cancelled as well.
Yes, I wondered about stress, I don't feel particularly stressed but maybe that's it. And of course now I'm stressing about this!
Or we are just getting old Wink
