Coccyx pain 1 year on

Hi there,
I have had pain from my coccyx for the past couple of weeks. It’s a dull ache that hurts mainly when I sit down but especially when I stand up from sitting or am sitting on hard chairs or in a specific way. I’ve googled it and found childbirth is a common cause. Only thing is I am 1 year on from my second birth, he was a big one but all went smoothly with a home water birth. So can this really be anything to do with childbirth or is there something else going on?
Thanks

I should say I’ve not suffered from this post birth up until now, one year on!

I’ve got the same - pain sitting straight down on it and worse when moving to stand up. I’ve had it since my son was born, over 2 years ago now (although he was by c section so I have no idea what happened to cause it). I’ve had physio (exercises, acupuncture and ultrasound) but it didn’t help. I was due to have a steroid injection into my spine last summer as the physio said it helped to numb it and might cause it to go entirely - but the clinic hasn’t been running so no idea when I might get an appointment. I think it feels a bit less acute now than it did so hopefully will get better in time.

I had this. An osteopath fixed it in two sessions.

The coccyx is one of the slowest and most difficult things to heal I'm afraid. I broke mine a few years ago and it was painful for about a year, then just uncomfortable for a while after that, then flared up again when I got pregnant.

The Dr said the slow healing was totally normal unfortunately.

So yes, it still being sore a year later sounds likely.

Astrid, was there an incident that triggered it? Sitting for several hours on an uncomfortable chair, or a fall?

I have the same (youngest child is 20), but mine was damaged in childbirth whereas yours seems not to have been.

Check your posture while you sit- sit forward and tilt your pelvis so the weight goes through your buttocks not your spine, check your chairs in case you've been sitting in a particularly bad one.

I slipped down some stairs holding dd and really hurt mine. Could still feel it 2 years later. Had some sessions with a chiropractor and it got sorted. Last one involved a finger up the bum. Zero pain now though!

Thanks everyone. Picklemewalnuts I’m sure my posture could be improved! I can’t remember falling on it though. I’ll keep an eye on how I sit, could it really be just a few hours of sitting that has triggered it?

Yes, potentially. It's a big strain on the back, a hard seat and poor posture.
