Anyone had a Colposcopy and a large cervical polyp removed?

I’ve been to the GP today as I’ve been spotting for a few weeks. I have what she thinks is a large polyp and due to its size, it has to be removed at the hospital. I’ve got the hospital appointment already for the middle of next week which has thrown me a bit as everything’s so quick. Don’t get me wrong, I’m pleased that I’ve been booked in so quickly but I can’t help thinking about why it’s so urgent. It’s only a few months since I had a clear smear so it’s gone from nothing to ‘too big’ in a very short space of time. Has anyone had this and can talk me through what’s likely to happen at the appointment?

Yes to both and I am a wuss and a worrier.

The polyp removal was fine as was the Colonoscopy. The prep was awful make sure your at home and close to the loo once you start and chill it and I would have everything going sedation and gas (and you will be fine).

Omg do I need gas and air along with sedation it sounds painful

I think Januaryblues is getting confused and meaning a bowel procedure not what you are having it's completely different

Your having a cervical polyp removal and colposcopy, which is completely different to a colonoscopy bowel procedure camera. but the two procedures often easily get confused due to sounding similar

It will be fine. I had a very large one removed
No sedation, no pain no issues after and all fine

Sorry to panic you op. Sorry this year I have had a colonoscopy and endoscopy at the same appointment. Then just after this I had a Colonoscopy (which was actually surprisingly ok). I can’t remember how big mine was but they removed it during my appointment and I had no idea they were going to do this beforehand.

@TattiePants I'm a bit late to the party but do you know how big yours was? I've been sent urgent and I'm at coloscopy Monday. She has sent it urgent also cos I suffer with anxiety/health anxiety and I wouldn't cope the 4 month wait . But in her hospital note it says because of the size and bled when the spectrum caught it.

Feb 2019 was 33 wk pregnant with twins. Bled when I strained to go to the loo. Went to maternity And the consultant and midwife said it's just a polyp and wernt concerned. 2 yers ago I went for a smear (clear) and she said it's not causing problems so it doesnt have to be removed. Dec 2020 had a heavy bleed she did an internal but nothing there. Had another heavy bleed 2 weeks ago and she looked and it was there. Mainly concerned with size and bled when the speculum caught it. When I asked her she said it's the size of a pea ?! I mean is that big? I've actually been put on antidepressants for this as I'm not coping. I have 5 children and want to watch them grow up. I'm so scared Sad

Are you ok now @Drina888
