Perimenopause / menopause at 44

I had my suspicions and the blood test had confirmed I need HRT. First GP was all for patches and the pill. However, it was her last day and another GP has picked this up and said because it is early menopause I have to be referred to the Gynaecologist.

I am due to speak to them tomorrow as I will be 45 by the time the Gynaecologist. Has anyone been treated by the GP under 45.

Thanks

I thought under 40 was regarded as early menopause.
See if you can have you thread moved to the Menopause section, I think a lot more people will see it there.

I'd ask @MNHQ to move this over to the Menopause Section too.

You may get a few more replies Thanks

I was started on HRT at 43 by my GP. No question of needing to see a gynaecologist. I thought post 40 was on the early end of normal and under 40 early. Are you menopausal (2 years no periods) or peri?

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 28/01/2021 07:34

I'm peri so need HRT as a preventative measure. Family history of heart problems, osteoporosis, stroke etc. I will check with them on todays phonecall, perhaps its the wrong use of the terminology, though a female GP

My friend started her menopause at 43 and she was told early menopause is when it starts before 45; before 40 it’s premature menopause. She was seeing a consultant regarding it.

Thanks for the answers. Second GP had only scanned the results. Am awaiting prescription for combined patch. All round excellent help. She agreed that it did not make sense to be put on the waiting list as I 'd be 45 by then anyways.

I started with the combined patch but felt very sick. Now on oestrogen patch and progesterone tablets and all good 👍 Good luck with it 😊

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 28/01/2021 19:24

Thanks, that's useful to know. I took the progesterone only pill about 20 years ago at the same time as being thoroughly miserable. I hope the patch works as I don't fancy the pop due to that
